Chief Software Systems Architect | California (Hybrid)
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Chief Architect/Engineer for assigned government programs, overseeing the development and execution of architectural roadmaps.
- Develop and document long-term architectural strategies, including capability milestones, integration points, legacy system decommissioning, and technical trade-offs.
- Create and maintain solution architectures and lifecycle roadmaps that meet business and technical needs.
- Analyze business requirements and propose technical network and system solutions, ensuring alignment with mission goals.
- Document and explain how technical solutions support overall business requirements and needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify integration points for existing and new capabilities, recommending priorities based on requirements.
- Lead prototyping efforts using Architecture as Code principles, applying development backlogs.
- Assess and advise on technical debt and priorities to improve current architecture.
- Evaluate emerging technologies to ensure they align with mission objectives, making recommendations for future trade studies.
- Create presentations to communicate recommendations on capabilities and technologies at government-hosted conferences.
- Work independently on high-visibility or mission-critical programs and functions.
- Foster collaboration among government and contractor teams in a multi-stakeholder environment.
- Provide guidance to assigned staff, promoting a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Ensure alignment with security standards by working closely with Information Systems Security Officers/Managers (ISSO/ISSM) in a SAP (Special Access Programs) environment.
- Offer expert support for both virtual and physical networks, computers, servers, and appliances.
- Oversee and maintain a configuration management system to ensure the traceability of technical data artifacts to their requirements.
- Develop and enforce governance policies and procedures to guide software development and program activities.
- Demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills, especially in remote or distributed teams.
Requirements:
- Active TS/SCI Clearance
- 10+ years of relevant DoD software architecture experience.
- 3+ years of recent experience in SAP environments, within the last 5 years.
- Expertise in Chief Engineer-level systems architecture, including open systems standards, secure communications architectures, and space system interoperability.
- Strong problem-solving and leadership abilities in IT.
- Experience with DevSecOps implementation and CI/CD pipelines.
- Fluency in multiple programming languages is highly desirable.
- Deep knowledge of database design, content management systems, and enterprise service bus architecture.
- Experience with tools like Mattermost, Jira, Jira Align, Confluence, and Outlook.
- Broad experience in software development for complex military systems, especially systems-of-systems integration.
Education and Certification:
- B.S. degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related field.
- M.S. degree in a related STEM field (preferred).
