Duration: 12 month contract – with possibility of extension
Position Overview:
Under the guidance of an NPD Engineer/Scientist or Senior/Lead Technician, the Prototype Technician will be responsible for constructing and modifying prototypes, conducting tests, and supporting laboratory operations. The role involves hands-on work with tools and materials, basic chemistry lab functions, and contributing to the improvement of laboratory processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prototype Construction & Modification: Build and modify prototypes, create new package configurations, and design basic test fixtures.
- Tool Usage: Safely use hand tools and power tools (e.g., drill press, band saw) to work with wood, metal, and plastics.
- Testing: Perform performance and safety tests on products, including pressure mapping, friction, and impact testing.
- Lab Functions: Measure ingredients, mix solutions, and perform pH measurements in a basic chemistry lab setting.
- Data Management: Enter data into spreadsheets, conduct basic statistical analyses, and create simple graphs/charts. Write first-draft protocols and reports.
- Production Support: Assist with pilot and production runs, including assembly, packing, inspections, and testing.
- Laboratory Maintenance: Help maintain lab equipment, perform basic repairs, and schedule larger repairs as needed.
- Safety & Materials Knowledge: Understand safety risks related to electrical equipment and have basic knowledge of materials like wood, metal, textiles, and adhesives.
- Sewing: Capable of hand/machine sewing basic prototypes and understanding sewing machine setup.
- Process Improvement: Contribute ideas for project enhancements and improvements to lab processes and layout.
Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with tools and machinery.
- Basic knowledge of chemistry and lab functions.
- Ability to handle data and perform basic statistical analysis.
- Familiarity with materials and their properties.
- Proactive attitude towards problem-solving and process improvement.
- Basic sewing skills and understanding of sewing machine operation.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in a similar prototyping or lab environment.
