Job Title: Nurse Aide Course Assistant Instructor

Overview:
The Nurse Aide Course Assistant Instructor will assist the primary instructor in providing classroom and clinical instruction in accordance with the Virginia Board of Nursing (VBON) regulations. This role includes teaching, supervising, and evaluating students while ensuring that all aspects of the curriculum are met.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the primary instructor in classroom settings by providing supplementary instruction in alignment with VBON regulations.
- Provide clinical instruction and supervision, ensuring students receive proper guidance and evaluation of their practical skills.
- Ensure that students are not permitted to perform tasks or provide care that they have not been properly trained or evaluated for.
- Maintain the required student-to-instructor ratio in all clinical areas (1 instructor for every 10 students), ensuring adequate supervision and safety.
- Medical Administrative Assistant Duties ($20 per hour): Report to the Dean of the Institute
- Supervise students directly while they provide patient care in clinical areas. Instructional personnel must be on-site and solely responsible for supervision during these activities.
- Collaborate with the primary instructor to assess students’ clinical competencies and provide feedback.
- Ensure all students adhere to clinical safety guidelines and maintain professional conduct.
- All instruction must be provided under the supervision of the primary instructor, with whom the assistant instructor collaborates to ensure compliance with educational standards and clinical safety.
- When students provide direct care, the assistant instructor must be on-site to supervise and must adhere to the student-to-instructor ratio as required by VBON.
Qualifications:
- Must be a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN) with a current, unrestricted Virginia license or multistate licensure privilege as an RN or LPN.
• At least one year of direct client care experience in a healthcare setting.
• Registered nurses (RN) must have one year of direct client care experience as a nurse.
• Licensed practical nurses (LPN) must have one year of direct client care experience as a licensed practical nurse.
• Must have at least one year of experience in a health profession related to the course content being taught.
• Demonstrated ability to teach adults or high school students through prior coursework or experience (per VBON standards).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students and other staff.
• Organizational skills to help manage student evaluations and instructional materials.
Education:
• Associate of Science in Nursing is required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing with RN certification (RN BSN) are preferred.
Instructional Competency and Certification Requirements:
• Completing at least 12 hours of coursework covering adult learning principles, teaching methods, evaluation strategies, current regulations, curriculum content, and skills assessed on the board-approved certification exam; or
• Having experience teaching nurse aide curriculum content and certification skills to adults or high school students, along with knowledge of current regulations for nurse aides and education programs.
• Must complete a refresher course reviewing regulations and skills required for the nurse aide certification exam every three years.
• During clinical instruction, the Primary Instructor must be on-site to supervise students, with a maximum ratio of 10 students per instructor to ensure safe and effective supervision.
