Job Summary:
The Certified Weld Inspector will be responsible for ensuring the quality of welding and structural installations at the project site. This position involves conducting inspections, verifying compliance with engineering drawings and specifications, and ensuring that all welding and fabrication processes meet the required standards. Candidates with experience in process piping are preferred, but this is not the primary focus of the role.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform quality assurance and quality control inspections for welding and fabrication activities across multiple construction sites.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and specifications, particularly related to welding processes, including but not limited to ASME, AWS, and API standards.
Review and interpret construction drawings, weld maps, and material specifications to ensure accuracy and quality of work.
Oversee and document weld inspections, including pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld evaluations, ensuring adherence to approved welding procedures.
Develop and implement inspection test plans (ITPs), quality control procedures, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
Coordinate and perform visual inspections, non-destructive testing (NDT), and other required testing methods to ensure weld integrity.
Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to address quality issues and ensure prompt resolution.
Ensure that all work adheres to safety regulations and quality control standards, including maintaining proper documentation for audits and client reviews.
Manage and monitor field inspections of materials, equipment, and construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and client expectations.
Conduct regular field audits to verify compliance with welding procedures and project quality requirements.
Provide guidance and support to field personnel on quality control processes and best practices for welding and related construction activities.
Support hydrostatic, pneumatic, and other pressure tests as needed.
Qualifications:
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Weld Inspector roles within industrial or construction projects, focusing on welding and structural quality.
Extensive knowledge of industry standards and codes (e.g., AWS, ASME, API).
Familiarity with construction drawings, weld maps, and materials specifications.
Experience developing and implementing quality control plans and conducting weld inspections.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and QA/QC documentation.
Familiarity with construction management software such as Procore (preferred but not required).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with process piping and related codes (ASME B31.3, API 570) is preferred but not required.
Additional certifications in non-destructive testing (NDT) methods (e.g., RT, UT, MT).
Experience with pressure testing and weld procedure qualification.
