Under general supervision, this position provides armed protection and performs security services of routine difficulty in maintaining the safety, security of persons, property in assigned buildings and grounds for multiple Company facilities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Security Officer will have content expertise in the following areas. They will be responsible for the following reporting and communication requirements as deemed appropriate by the Security Supervisor:
- Ensure physical security and safety for the building and its occupants.
- Documenting incidents and reviewing reports before submitting them to their reporting supervisor.
- Coordinate and conduct security-related training.
- Enforcing security, safety & fire protection policies.
- Serve as liaison to other Company departments and outside agencies regarding safety and security issues.
- Establishes and maintains working relationships with local law enforcement agencies.
- Ensure compliance with Federal/State/Local agency security regulations and statutes.
- Coordinate emergency responses.
- May be required to administer emergency First Aid, Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation, and AED.
- Maintains lost and found.
- Explains safety and security procedures and may instruct employees in using safety equipment.
- Assists during safety drills; directs emergency evacuation until police/firemen arrive.
- Checks and maintains safety and security equipment.
- Secures building area by locking and unlocking doors at scheduled times.
- Required to de-escalate incidents and physically escort individuals from the property.
- Maintains observation of areas following organized activities to keep records of any property damage or faulty equipment.
- Provide information to the employees on applicable rules and regulations, office, facility locations, general crime prevention techniques, and available programs, and related issues.
- Respond accordingly to emergencies to protect persons and property by going to the appropriate location; assessing the situation; following prescribed instructions; applying basic knowledge of first aid, CPR, and other emergency procedures as appropriate; and requesting additional assistance when needed.
- Assist in building evacuations and searches to ensure occupants' safety by notifying them of the threatening situation(s), and providing instructions as directed.
- Monitors TV and audio surveillance to check the building safety, security, and control, and notifies designated staff of emergencies.
- Editing and labeling equipment per guidelines.
- Audits surveillance system ensuring it is working properly, and submits service requests when needed.
- Negotiates with security companies for new cameras.
- Position daily surveillance cameras in the parking lot to monitor traffic flow.
- Creates Employee IDs and card access for employees.
- Monitors access, alarms, and cameras at all locations.
- Work weekends, Holidays, nights, and extra hours when needed.
- Other Duties as assigned.

- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of state statutes, traffic laws, and county and township ordinances in which the company operates.

- Knowledge of administrative rules, regulations and procedures governing security for assigned buildings and grounds sufficient to follow, enforce and explain them.
- Knowledge of area(s) to which assigned, including office and facility locations, and where to seek assistance in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of proper safety precautions and first aid techniques sufficient to deal effectively with emergency situations.
- Ability to enforce regulations, reasonably but firmly.
- Ability to follow simple oral and written directions.
- Ability to prepare incident reports and maintain log records accurately and concisely.
- Ability to demonstrate mental alertness, exercise good judgment in implementing instructions, and be trustworthy.
- Ability to keep and maintain confidential information and data.
- Travel up to 25%
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a company office building. Lifting requirements of up to 50 pounds occasionally may be required. Wrist and finger manipulation due to computer work, calculating, compiling and filing. Equipment used may include but is not limited to computer, typewriter, calculator, telephone, copy and fax machines. Standing and sitting for long hours.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; higher education in a relevant field is a plus.
- Proven experience in private security, military, or police, with at least five years in a similar role.
- First Aid/CPR certificate (FMP will train)
- Current MN Permit to Carry
- Valid Driver’s License
- No Criminal History
- Knowledge of security protocols, procedures, and best practices.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent Verbal and written communication
- Problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to make decisions under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies.
- Proficient in using security-related technology and systems.
- Training or certification in security management is preferred.
PREFERRED EDUCATION BEYOND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Law Enforcement or related field
- Bilingual
