Project Overview:
The Walsh-VINCI Transit Community Partners (WVTCP) Joint Venture consisting of VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Walsh Construction has been selected to construct the $2.9BN Design Build Red Line Extension (RLE) project – the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). The RLE Mainline Design-Build (MDB) Project will extend the CTA's Red Line by 5.6 miles, extending from the existing terminal at 95th/Dan Ryan south to 130th Street and Doty Avenue. The CAD Technician is responsible for preparing plans to be used in engineering and construction, including highway, bridge and/or tunnel components. They will support our engineering department in designing and drafting plans, roadway profiles, cross sections, and general civil engineering/infrastructure project elements.
Responsibilities:
- Prepares means and methods drawings on the construction methods, sequence of works, temporary works, formwork definition as well as lifting operations and logistic issues, including scaffolding and accesses.
- Ensure that all the Requirements from Employers and any parties are met and that no objections can be provided to the permanent construction.
- Ensure that the drawings are developed using the workflows set in the CAD Manual.
- Ensure that those drawings are compliant with the required standards by using designated software.
- Work closely with engineers, surveyors, managers and other departments.
- Integrate quality and safety measurements and prevent any risks in the execution methods and sequence drawings.
- Report about the progress of the design development.
- Circulate the drawings to the design or construction team for their further review and upon review, integrate the received comments through issuance of reviewed drawings.
- Assist the engineering department on creating standards, libraries and templates.
- Train and mentor junior drafters.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as CAD Designer/ Draftsman in the construction industry and in infrastructure works (roadway, bridge, tunnel, or similar).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
- Minimum 1 year experience on Formwork, Work Sequences and Construction Methods drawings.
Preferred
- Experience in infrastructure 3D Modeling such as: building pads, alignment and profile design, roadway modeling, DTM modeling, drainage, cross sections and quantity take-offs.
- Experience with Microstation GEOPAK SS4 or Bentley Openroads designer.
- Knowledge or experience in BIM software, such as Revit, Navisworks or Synchro.
- Previous experience in tunneling projects and/or large infrastructure projects.
Work Environment:
- Involves a dynamic and challenging work environment.
- Includes tasks such as maintaining and repairing heavy machinery, ensuring equipment operates efficiently, and adhering to safety protocols in construction sites.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, and reflective vests when on-site.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift 25lbs.
- Walking and standing while in-office or on-site.
- Occasional climbing on and off equipment and bending to inspect.
