Job Overview:
The VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) Coordinator will be responsible for managing and overseeing the virtual design process for mechanical systems in construction projects. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical design and BIM (Building Information Modeling) software to coordinate and collaborate with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients. The VDC Coordinator ensures that all mechanical designs are optimized, coordinated, and aligned with the project’s overall objectives, while adhering to timelines and budgets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage, and update 3D models for mechanical systems using BIM software (Revit, Navisworks, etc.).
- Collaborate with project teams, including engineers, designers, and field personnel, to ensure accurate design and constructability.
- Lead clash detection and coordination meetings, identifying and resolving design conflicts with other trades.
- Maintain consistent communication with project managers and stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals and schedules.
- Review and update shop drawings based on changes in design and field conditions.
- Assist in pre-construction planning, providing input on system layouts and design efficiency.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure mechanical systems align with project requirements.
- Generate and distribute VDC reports, logs, and design updates as needed.
- Support project handover processes, ensuring accurate and comprehensive as-built documentation.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to improve VDC practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in VDC/BIM coordination within the mechanical contracting industry.
- Proficiency in BIM software (Revit, Navisworks) and other design tools.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, plumbing) in commercial and industrial projects.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with prefabrication and modular construction techniques.
- Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, Bluebeam).
- Knowledge of MEP coordination processes.
