This job posting is for the Mobile Lidar Coordinator within the Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing Unit. This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and has the flexibility to telecommute, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent may be expected to work in the office on occasion.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervising employees on the mobile lidar team.
- Working with MnDOT offices statewide, to schedule and coordinate the deployment of our mobile mapping services.
- Serving as a project manager on consultant mapping contracts.
- Providing field collection, data processing, and feature extraction training to staff.
- Developing work plans and scheduling field operations.
- Maintaining the mobile mapping vehicle and related equipment.
- Collecting and processing terrestrial mobile lidar.
- Creating geospatial products including: planimetric maps, Digital Terrain Models (DTM), ortho-rectified mosaics, and other GIS products.
- Performing research and development, representing MnDOT at conferences and acting as a liaison between private, public, and academia.
In-state travel is required up to 25% between April through October performing field work.

Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of para-engineering experience at the Engineering Specialist level (or equivalent) that demonstrates:
- Experience applying remote sensing principles, lidar processes and procedures, and ground control requirements.
- Experience using lidar scanners and GPS/Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) equipment.
- Experience with lidar post-processing and feature collection from terrestrial lidar.
- Experience with Computer-aided design (CAD).
- Experience coordinating geospatial projects.
*Must possess a valid Minnesota Class D Driver’s License.
