SUMMARY
Responsible for delivering high quality, coordinated customer service to patients in the surgery scheduling department. Responsible for being the financial resource for patients to better help them understand their financial responsibilities for the services being rendered. Coordinates surgical, referral, and imaging care between multiple healthcare partners. (ie patient insurance payers, surgery centers, preadmission testing, professional surgical assistants etc.) Manages patient accounts to efficiently collect all monies due the practice, such as copays, deductibles, coinsurances, and other self-pay monies. Will utilize all tools at their discretion to facilitate the collecting of money, such as prepayment plans, payment plans, and other means of paying. Will also be responsible for being a member of the front office staff and backing up other staff members with front office duties, such as answering phones, checking patients in and out, and other administrative duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for greeting and communicating with patients in person and on the phone in a clear, and professional manner.
2. Responsible for maintaining accurate patient account information, including but not limited to, demographic, insurance, and pharmacy information.
3. Surgical Scheduling: Schedule all surgeries on the provider schedule and hospital schedule
- Confirm surgery appointments with patients
- Responsible for verifying insurance coverage, and when needed, obtain prior authorization.
- Developing Surgical plans for patients
- Responsible for the billing of insurance claims for all surgeries and collecting from both patients and insurance companies.
4. Utilize Role Specific Checklists to complete all tasks related to preparing, delivering, billing, and collecting, for services rendered. These include but are not limited to the following
- Scheduling patient appointments.
- Verifying insurance eligibility, either electronically or via the phone
- Collecting balances and time of service monies

Minimum Education/Experience
High School Diploma or High School Equivalency
Strong computer skills required
Preferred Education/Experience
Some college – medical, business, accounting focus
Current CPR card
1-2 years of experience in a business office or clinical environment
EMR experience preferred-Athenahealth practice management system
- Certified biller, coder, and/or 5 years experience billing, coding, or high level of insurance knowledge (For Surgical Scheduler and Lead)

Salary: $20 - $26 / hour
