The scope of the project involves managing construction contracts for a new power plant construction project located in Wheaton, Wisconsin, within West Central Wisconsin.
Primarily working out of Minneapolis, MN location with travel to WI when needed.
The individual in this role will focus primarily on overseeing multiple construction contracts, many of which involve the same contractor but operate under separate agreements. Unlike previous field engineering roles, this position is more focused on the construction and project management aspects, including handling contractual matters.
This position will be supporting a team that includes several key players including the Project Manager (PM): The contract manager will report directly to the common project manager overseeing both the Wheaton and Shakopee project sites on a day-to-day basis.
Engineering Team: The position will work closely with a full engineering team that is present on-site. This includes coordination with engineers to provide technical responses to contractors’ requests for information (RFIs).
Contractors: Regular interaction with contractors is a crucial part of this role. The contract manager will be the main point of contact for addressing contractor questions, change order requests, and contract-related matters.
Construction Managers: There is a full-time construction manager on-site responsible for handling the daily, on-the-ground construction activities. The contract manager will coordinate with the construction manager to ensure smooth operations.
Project Controls Team: Collaboration with project controls will be necessary for reporting, managing budget and schedule updates, and ensuring that all project tracking is in line with contract terms.
Engineering Consultant: This position will also be supported by an external engineering consultant, providing additional technical expertise when needed. The group is a diverse team of project managers, engineers, contractors, and construction managers, all working together to ensure successful project execution across multiple sites.
Key responsibilities include Managing Construction Contracts:
- Ensuring that the separate contracts are adhered to and addressing any issues related to contractual obligations.
- Technical Component: Responding to contractor's requests for information (RFIs) by collaborating with the engineering team to provide technical responses.
- Travel and Site Visits: Regular travel to the construction site in Wheaton, with visits ranging from one to three days per week based on project needs.
- Full-time presence on-site may also be required depending on the project phase.
- Project Coordination: Supporting a sister project at the Blue Lake facility in Shakopee, MN, with the remainder of the time spent in the Twin Cities metro area (either at the downtown Minneapolis office or at the Blue Lake facility).
The project has both a technical and managerial focus, blending construction oversight with engineering coordination and necessitating flexibility in travel and on-site presence.
