Summary:
The Clinical Research Informatician serves as a bridge between clinicians, researchers, and data teams, integrating knowledge of clinical workflows and health information technology to support clinical and translational research. This role focuses on designing, testing, implementing, and maintaining applications and datasets for clinical areas. The informatician will interface with stakeholders to ensure effective development and maintenance of informatics tools, contributing to improved patient care and operational efficiency.
Key responsibilities include liaising with data stewards and clinical researchers, optimizing clinical workflows, implementing healthcare data solutions, and ensuring the accurate curation and documentation of healthcare data. The informatician will also develop and implement applications and algorithms for organizing and analyzing clinical data, contributing to presentations, scientific publications, and grant proposals.
Must-Haves:
Education & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or a clinical field (e.g., nursing) with certification in Health Informatics.
- OR a Bachelor’s in Informatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, or Artificial Intelligence with certification in Health Informatics (Required).
- Master’s Degree (Preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in:
- Clinical Research
- Clinical Informatics
- Information Technology and/or Academic Healthcare Settings
Technical Skills & Expertise:
- Experience in clinical operations, Health Information Management, or Care Management.
- Strong knowledge of clinical standards, coding, definitions, ontologies, dictionaries, and taxonomies.
- Experience with Clinical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and implementing new technologies in clinical settings.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python (or similar coding languages).
- Experience in healthcare data curation, documentation in a data warehouse, and optimizing clinical workflows to enhance efficiency and patient outcomes.
- Ability to liaise between clinical stakeholders and technical teams.
Minimum Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or a related field (Required).
- Master’s Degree in a related field (Preferred).
- At least 2 years of experience in clinical research, clinical informatics, and healthcare IT or academic healthcare settings.
Key Accountabilities:
- Apply clinical knowledge to develop informatics tools, workflows, and analyses.
- Develop, test, and implement healthcare data applications and algorithms.
- Curate and document healthcare data in a data warehouse.
- Optimize clinical workflows using technology to improve efficiency and patient outcomes.
