JOB SUMMARY:
Sensapure Flavors is a fast-paced, innovative, Salt Lake City-based flavor house with a dedicated team of industry veterans, exceptional flavor chemists, and product development/applications experts. We create and provide flavor systems for food and nutrition companies across the globe.
The Flavor Apprentice assists Flavor Chemists by obtaining and verifying raw materials, making solutions, and compounding flavors. The goal is to have the apprentice enter a seven- year certified Flavor Chemist training program as conducted by Sensapure’s Senior Flavorists and achieve full Flavorist certification by The Society of Flavor Chemists.
MAIN JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for maintaining laboratory inventory of ingredients, equipment, packaging, and general supplies, and checking raw materials for quality.
- Responsible for data entry for completion of projects.
- Responsible for the production of finished product samples to support project work.
- Assist in sample preparation, testing, formula creation process, maintaining flavor library, participation in ideation sessions, and other lab work as assigned.
- Conducts physical, chemical, and organoleptic testing; makes oral and written observations and judgments on process and outcome to provide feedback to chemists.
- Maintains a safe and professional laboratory environment; complies with government and company safety directives.
- Utilizes good communication skills, both written and oral; enters and maintains accurate and thorough records as required.
- Attend staff meetings on a regular basis.
- Help maintain the lab, i.e. washing glassware, filling flavors, cleaning out refrigerators etc.
- Other duties and functions may be assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Food Science, or Chemical Engineering is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position almost constantly works in an office environment. Frequently working with moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and close quarters. Frequent exposure to allergens such as milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continuous use of hands, hearing/listening, talking. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending/stooping, and lifting up to 10 lbs. Seldom climbing stairs, kneeling/squatting, reaching overhead, and pulling/pushing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
