We seek an experienced Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Specialist to join our team and promote continuous improvement in SHE practices. This role is essential for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while cultivating a safety culture and environmental responsibility throughout the organization.
The SHE Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety, health, and environmental programs. This position requires extensive experience with environmental and safety regulations to ensure compliance with industry standards and legal requirements. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in a chemical plant and be skilled in identifying potential hazards, mitigating risks, and promoting a safe and environmentally responsible workplace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish, implement, and maintain SHE policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Perform regular safety and environmental audits to identify hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Conduct investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective measures.
- Please ensure that hazardous materials and waste are effectively managed, disposed of, and documented according to environmental regulations.
- Work with plant leadership and staff to foster and uphold a culture of safety, health, and environmental responsibility.
- Provide safety and environmental training programs for employees, contractors, and management.
- Please ensure that all safety, health, and environmental permits and reports are completed accurately and punctually.
- Perform risk assessments and job safety analyses to identify and reduce risks in plant operations.
- Please monitor SHE regulations and emerging best practices and recommend improvements as needed.
- Promote ongoing improvement efforts focused on environmental sustainability and safety performance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a chemical plant or similar industrial environment, focusing on environmental and safety responsibilities.
- Proven knowledge of environmental regulations (e.g., air, water, waste management) and occupational safety standards (OSHA, NFPA, etc.).
- Experience conducting risk assessments, hazard identification, and implementing corrective actions.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, or CHMM) are highly desirable.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with process safety management (PSM) in a chemical manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with safety and environmental management software systems.
- Demonstrated success in reducing workplace incidents and improving SHE metrics.
