We are currently seeking a Workers’ Compensation Litigation Associate Attorney for a plaintiffs' side law firm in the Charleston, SC area. This firm is growing and has multiple offices in South Carolina. However, they maintain a smaller firm feel so opportunities for growth are likely. The focus for this associate position is the plaintiff’s side of workers’ compensation cases although personal injury litigation may also be available.
Example Job Responsibilities:
- Handling all aspects of workers’ compensation cases from the initial client intake meeting through resolution
- Drafting and filing of litigation documents to include pleadings, discovery requests, discovery responses, demands, motions, and memorandum
- Guide clients through the case process
- Interaction with expert witnesses to include conferences, drafting of expert reports, and affidavits
- Litigating cases before a workers’ compensation Commissioner or the full Commission
- Handing WC appeals to the Circuit Court through the SC Supreme Court
- Attendance and preparation for depositions, mediations, hearings, and court appearances
- Travel in SC for court appearances may be required
Minimum and Additional Qualifications:
- A JD from an accredited law school and a member of the SC Bar in good standing
- At least 1-3 years experience practicing as an attorney with knowledge and expertise in the workers’ compensation case process
- Strong legal writing skills including experience in drafting briefs and other legal documents
- Ability to express arguments and conclusions clearly and logically
- Strong research, organizational and analytical skills
- Detail-oriented, hardworking, and results-driven team player
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience gathering evidence to be used in trial & interviewing key witnesses
