JOB SUMMARY:
The Head of Biology will lead the discovery and validation of novel therapeutic targets in oncology, overseeing drug discovery activities from early-stage research to preclinical development. The position also includes mentoring project leaders, managing teams, and fostering cross-functional collaborations to accelerate oncology treatments toward clinical application.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Spearhead the discovery of new, high-value therapeutic targets for the oncology pipeline.
- Develop and implement strategies for identifying novel targets within specific patient populations.
- Oversee biology efforts for innovative oncology therapeutic programs, ensuring timely and strategic delivery of actionable data.
- Prioritize projects and manage resources to support organizational goals.
- Foster strong cross-functional collaboration within the discovery organization.
- Effectively communicate scientific progress and strategy internally and externally.
- Stay informed on competitive intelligence and advancements in oncology by interacting with experts, attending scientific meetings, and reviewing literature.
- Promote a culture of scientific excellence and support career growth for a team of cancer biologists.
- Support business development strategies and needs
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ph.D. in Biology-related field, with 12+ years of progressive biotech/pharma experience.
- Deep understanding of oncology and the current therapeutic landscape.
- Proven success in moving projects from target discovery to early development, including lead identification and optimization.
- Strong interpersonal skills, capable of influencing key scientific decisions and collaborating with stakeholders. A strategic thinker able to balance the big picture with detailed program execution.
- Strong leader who can develop and lead teams to a high level of performance, within an evolving and fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills. Creative thinker who is innovative and open to new ideas and ways of working
- Experience managing external research collaborations with contract research organizations and academic partners. Experience with regulatory filings (IND, IB, NDA) is preferred. Experience in radiopharmaceuticals is preferred, but not required.
