Our client, an established retail hardware store located in the Central Coast of California, is looking for an experienced Human Resource Manager to represent, support, instill and sustain the company’s culture, policies, and mission. Position opportunity: The Human Resource Manager will have a combined skillset that includes being both a strategic partner to leadership as well as a hands-on leader to management and its employees. This person will have a strong CA and Federal compliance background and will be responsible for the oversight and administration of legal/compliance items, leave management, onboarding oversight, ongoing training and development facilitation/tracking, safety oversight, and payroll budget implementation. The duties will include:
- Remain updated on labor laws, industry trends, employment legislation, and best practices in human resources. Ensure the organization is in compliance and that government reporting regulations and requirements are met by the dictated timelines.
- Support and advise the executive management team on various HR-related items which include updating leadership on legal issues and maintaining reporting on personnel changes.
- Ability to manage employee relations and resolve conflicts in a fair and timely manner. Conduct thorough investigations as required.
- Facilitate or conduct training programs on various compliance, employee development, and other personnel management areas for all staff. This may include management, new hire/onboarding, safety, forklift, or Company specific training.
- Responsible for all aspects of leave of absence management.
- Payroll budget oversight and implementation which includes ensuring various stores are staying within budget, utilization rates are being maintained, and other store level support is provided.
- Safety oversight to include accident investigations along with compliance of various state, federal, and other government agency requirements (Ex: WVPP and OSHA requirements).
- Collaborate with management to ensure that proper staffing and retention levels are being maintained at each store.
Ideal candidate: This role will juggle several moving items at a time, therefore, having demonstrated time management and organizational skills is a must! This person will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, professional, and a team player. This person will also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated experience includes:
- A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field ideal, but not required.
- An HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is highly desirable but not required.
- Prior experience in a human resource management role is required. Experience in a retail environment is ideal, but not required.
- Strong foundation and knowledge of California employment laws.
- Prior experience working in Paycom software along with HRIS conversion experience.
- Ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and professionalism.
- May be required to travel within the San Luis Obispo County or occasionally outside of the county.

The pay range for this role is $95,000 - $120,000 annually, depending on experience. This role is contingent upon successful background check completion.
