Director, Office of AI Research
Office of the Scientific Director (OSD), Division of Intramural Research (DIR)
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute is looking for a Director of the Office of AI Research (OAIR). The OAIR is part of the Office of the Scientific Director within the Division of Intramural Research (DIR). The purpose of the OAIR is to advance DIR research by developing novel Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) methods and to cultivate an AI community and AI expertise across the DIR.
As the OAIR Director, you will build and manage a team of AI/ML researchers responsible for developing state-of-the-art AI/ML methods that advance DIR research. You will collaborate with the 70+ DIR labs, spanning clinical, basic science, and core facilities, and you will be responsible for prioritizing this portfolio of research collaborations to create innovative solutions for heart, lung, blood, and sleep research. In support of this mission, you and the OAIR team will develop AI/ML techniques for biomedical data types including medical imaging, microscopy, histology, omics, phenotypic and EHR data, and experimental and simulation data. While a majority of your research will be collaborative with DIR research labs, a portion of your time will be devoted to independent research that will impact the NHLBI. The OAIR, under your leadership, will foster an AI community in the DIR through journal clubs, symposia, trainings, shared services, and other ideas that you think will enable DIR researchers to leverage AI/ML techniques in their research. Finally, as the OAIR Director, you will organize OAIR to advise and consult DIR labs on lab-led projects, providing guidance and feedback as needed.
