General Description:
The Maintenance Planner’s primary responsibility is to review notifications, create maintenance orders, and plan labor and material required to execute the order per the routine maintenance planning procedures Maintenance Planner objective is to optimize expenditures and technician productivity through best practice planning methods, that support scheduling and ensure safe, reliable plant operation. The Planner works jointly with Procurement to obtain an optimized total cost of materials and services, within specification requirements that supports safe work practices, plant safety and operational objectives. The Maintenance Planner is responsible for providing data to support maintenance metrics.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Manages maintenance activities for the assigned area
- Comply with all site safety and environmental policies
- Assists Project Engineers with entering maintenance projects in to master schedule
- Assists Operations with prioritizing and facilitating shutdown activities
- Screen all notifications, except emergency notifications, in assigned area of responsibility to insure the notification accurately defines the scope of work, meets the criteria for the assigned priority, is a valid request for work to be performed by maintenance personnel and financed by the applicable maintenance expense budget
- Converts notifications into Maintenance Orders (MO) and creates a maintenance work plan, if required secures additional information prior to converting the notification into a maintenance order
- Reviews the cost estimate with the applicable Maintenance Superintendent before proceeding with moving the order to a Waiting on Parts or Ready to Work revision
- Create detailed job plans for all MOs in area of responsibility, except emergency MOs, via SAP; detailed job plans could include: field walk down or evaluation; manpower estimates by craft or contractor to support best practice scheduling and note any applicable safety regulations/concerns
- Create a job package that goes to the field for use by the appropriate technicians or contractors
- Maintain a prioritized planned backlog for assigned crews in the areas of responsibility via SAP
- Performs duties associated with Mini-Outages
- Produce or assist in creation of schedules for Mini-Outages
- Create and maintain SAP equipment database; provide materials, tools, services and equipment through requisitioning, storehouse stock, purchasing cards or rentals (for non-emergency work only)
- Create and maintain Preventive/Predictive Maintenance (PPM) tasks/orders via SAP to be used in the scheduling process
- Provide input to the planning/scheduling metrics and provide services to help maintain metric target levels
- Communicate with Maintenance, Operations, vendors, manufacturers and contractors to facilitate expedition of materials and services for non-emergency work per planning directives
- Perform special duties as assigned by the Maintenance Planning Lead
- Develop scope of work for competitive bid processes
- Following execution of the work, update critical records for future use
- Create and maintain data base of planned ready-to-work MOs to be used in the daily/weekly or mini-outage scheduling processes; this includes reporting accurate resource data to the Planning Lead to support scheduling resource leveling
- Coordinate MO prioritization with Maintenance Foreman and Operations Maintenance Coordinator
- Maintains direct communications between Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Inspections, Planning and Scheduling
- Performs administrative duties
- Create and publish weekly and daily schedules
- Attend daily update meetings with Maintenance Foreman and Maintenance Coordinators to revise/finalize the next day’s or week’s work schedule
- Coordinate field execution with on-site Project Coordinator
- Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned
- Maintains a clean and well organized work area
- Attends meetings as required
- Attends training as required
- Complies with all HSSE programs, policies and procedures
- Performs special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned
Education, Experience, Certifications Required:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Two year technical degree in, Maintenance Technology or five years’ experience in Plant Maintenance, chemical manufacturing, refining manufacturing or construction
- Thorough understanding of maintenance cost drivers
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, PFDs, blueprints, and isometric drawings
- Thorough knowledge of estimating job plans
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Excel
- Demonstrated leadership ability including strong interpersonal skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
Preference Education, Experience, Certifications
- Knowledge of SAP including ability to generate various reports, create plans, set up spare parts
- Thorough knowledge of PSM Mechanical Integrity and Safety procedures
- Proficient in MS Access
Knowledgeable with Primavera or other scheduling tools
