The Role: As Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at Nalu Bio, you will lead the development of innovative therapeutics and supplements by harnessing the power of the endocannabinoid system. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll shape scientific strategies that align with our commercial goals, driving new product development and drug discovery in a dynamic, fast-growing market. Job Qualifications
- Leadership in Innovation: Proven ability to lead the scientific vision and R&D strategy, developing innovative products that utilize cannabinoids and natural compounds for therapeutic use.
- Drug Discovery Leadership: Extensive experience in drug discovery and development, with a track record of managing product development from concept through to licensing in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
- Cannabinoid and Natural Product Development: Expertise in the development of therapeutics using cannabinoids or other natural products. Experience in consumer health product development is a plus.
- Industry Experience: Preferred candidates will have experience with leading organizations such as Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Abbott, and Bayer.
- Therapeutic Area Expertise: Strong background in drug discovery and development, specifically in the areas of pain and inflammation.
- Strategic Focus: Ability to drive innovation while aligning with Nalu Bio’s commercial goals, ensuring that both timelines and business objectives are achieved.
The Ideal Candidate
- PhD in chemistry or a related life science field.
- 10+ years in biopharmaceuticals, with senior leadership roles in drug discovery, ideally in small molecules, cannabinoids, or natural products.
- Extensive experience managing drug discovery and development programs from concept to clinical studies, with a strong focus on timely execution and collaboration with CROs, CMOs, and partners.
- Scientific expertise in multiple therapeutic areas including pain, inflammation, and metabolism.
- Broad scientific, clinical, technical, and regulatory understanding of drug development and medical and supplement product development.
- Detailed knowledge of the drug discovery and development process and the regulatory review process.
- Proficiency in data and quantitative sciences, including clinical pharmacology, statistics, and digital health technologies.
- Strong written and verbal skills, with the ability to present complex data and strategies to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A team player with effective interpersonal skills and experience building industry partnerships.
- Experience in developing partnerships, licensing compounds to pharmaceutical companies, and leading the scientific diligence process.
- Experience in start-ups and a passion for innovation.
- Potential travel 20% including US and/International and must be located within and authorized to work in the United States today and in the future.
