POSITION SUMMARY:
Mechanical Design Engineer will work as part of the team providing practical and economic design solutions for new components for use in the Power Industry. The main duty will be providing mechanical support for a broad range of both new and existing components and products with an aim to maintain Pulse’s superiority in the market.
EDUCATION:
- 4-year college degree; Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- AutoCAD training
- SolidWorks training
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
(Technical/Non-Technical)
- 3-5 years overall work experience in a design environment, 5-10 years preferred; Experience in molding and tooling design.
- Design, development and validation of all aspects of mechanical components and complex assemblies
- Technical knowledge of design software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of material selection including metals and plastics.
- Understanding of component manufacturing techniques, such as transfer and injection molding, soldering, blanketing, metal forming, etc.
- Proficient in English language.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Design, evaluate and test new products, including tooling and fixtures.
- Conduct lab evaluations of the design. Confirm proof of concept.
- Prepare drawing designs and related documentation.
- Provide customer and manufacturing support.
- Specification of components and support of sourcing group to identify suitable parts.
- Attending program, staff, design review, company, ISO and group meetings and be an active part of such meetings
- Other duties as assigned.
CHALLENGES:
- Design a new product and the associated tooling that meets customers’ specifications within a short amount of time.
- Support different groups with different priorities.
- There is a delicate balance between the time it takes to develop new methods and the market window.
- Work with plants that are in different time zones.
- Product development cycles are shortened, as driven by the market, challenging one’s ability to be creative and on time.
- Errors in design could result in a significant expenditure of time and/or money to correct the error and restore faith in the capabilities of the group.
- Management of multiple concurrent tasks.
