Tektonyx Bio is focused on the further development and use of a semi-synthetic organism for the production of novel protein therapeutics. We harness the power of a revolutionary technology based on E. coli that has been engineered to utilize an expanded genetic alphabet composed of the four natural nucleotides and two additional, synthetic nucleotides. This technology allows the encoding and production of custom proteins with site-specific functionalities for the discovery and development of novel protein-based therapeutics. We are seeking a bacterial strain engineer/synthetic biologist/geneticist to participate in the continued optimization of the semi-synthetic organism, including DNA replication, transcription, translation, and/or metabolism.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, construct, and evaluate optimized semi-synthetic E. coli organisms
- Work collaboratively on a fast moving project with evolving goals.
- Work closely within and collaborate extensively with the Tektonyx strain optimization subgroup.
- Interact closely with colleagues in the Tektonyx therapeutic protein discovery subgroup.
Basic Qualifications
- PhD in a field related to some aspect of bacterial physiology (molecular biology, biomolecular engineering, metabolic engineering, synthetic biology). Industry or postdoctoral experience beneficial but not required.
- Proficiency and experience with molecular biology techniques including DNA construct design, PCR, DNA assembly and cloning (Golden Gate Assembly, Gibson Assembly), and sequence analysis in associated software (APE, Benchling, Snapgene, etc.)
- Experience with bacterial (E. coli) genetics, microbiology, and synthetic biology
- Practical knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in E. coli strain engineering, protein engineering, and protein expression
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing goals in a biotech startup environment
The salary range for this role is $120,000 – $130,000 and is based on a number of factors including qualifications and experience. Tektonyx also offers a comprehensive benefits package.
