LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) POSITION SUMMARY:
In conjunction with the RN/Unit Director, the Licensed Practical Nurse utilizes a general understanding of the principles of nursing and basic physical assessment skills in the development of and implementation of individualized nursing care plans to ensure that the needs of the residents are met. He/she assists in the orientation of and supervision of nursing personnel, attends to the daily operations of the unit per shift, unit level, and assumes responsibilities of a leadership role.
LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1 Takes an active role in direct resident assessment and care;
2 Administers medication and/or treatment and documentation of same to residents;
3 Responsible for clinical documentation related to resident activity;
4 Assists in developing and implementing resident care plan and nursing care plan;
5 Counts and records class drugs when beginning and ending shift;
6 Communicates pertinent data to charge nurse, superior and/or physician;
7 Provides for emotional and physical comfort and safety of residents;
8 Assists physician in rounds and examination of residents, as needed;
9 Supervises and coordinates nursing personnel in providing direct resident care in adherence with state and federal regulations;
10 Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;
11 Performs other duties as requested.
LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1 The Licensed Practical Nurse must be a graduate of an approved school for practical or vocational nursing and must be currently licensed by the State Board of Nursing.
2 Experience is preferred in rehabilitative or geriatric nursing.
LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) JOB SKILLS:
1 Must be in good physical and mental health.
2 Must be able to withstand strenuous physical activity.
3 Must have manual dexterity to handle instruments and equipment.
4 Must have visual and aural acuity to detect changes in resident's condition.
5 Must possess understanding, patience and tact in dealing with infirm, chronic or acutely ill residents; tact and courtesy in dealing with residents, families and visitors.
6 Must possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
7 Must have a general knowledge of personnel policies and procedures, along with an understanding of supervisory responsibilities.
8 Must possess the ability to work independently, problem solve and make decisions as necessary.
9 Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language, which may be of a technical nature.
10 Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) PERFORMS RELATED DUTIES:
1 Interacts with residents, families, visitors and employees.
2 He/she carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.
