Altec specializes in the design, manufacture, sale, and service of aerial devices, digger derricks, cranes, telecom, and specialty equipment, supporting customers in over 100 countries throughout the world.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Embedded Controls Engineering Interns in Duluth, MN participate in the development and support of embedded electronic control systems for Altec’s Transmission and Lights & Signs aerial products while learning through practical application of engineering principles. They receive training on industry-standard development tools and processes and gain exposure to other engineering disciplines by working alongside Product, Quality, Manufacturing, Service, and Data Engineers. They also learn to operate the Altec equipment that they’re designing for!
Embedded Controls Engineering Interns work on technical projects alongside and under the guidance of Altec’s Embedded Controls Engineers. Technical content varies by project and can include:
Embedded firmware development and testing using industry-standard model-based tools
Simulation-based and on-hardware firmware verification
Sensor and actuator selection and testing
Operator-machine interface design and component selection
Test fixture design and assembly
Test data capture and analysis using industry-standard data logging tools
Machine telematics data analysis
Wire harness design
Manufacturing and support documentation and training
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Apply engineering knowledge gained in school to research, design, testing, documentation, and support assignments.
Demonstrate drive and ownership over assignments, requiring less immediate supervision as the internship progresses.

Ask questions and learn from Altec’s engineers, who are more than happy to share their knowledge and experience.
Develop positive, effective, and professional working relationships with other Altec associates, suppliers, and customer representatives.
Develop the skills necessary to become an excellent engineer.
Basic Qualifications
Students must:
be able to provide documentation stating that they are enrolled full-time in a college or university and in good standing.
be at least 18 years of age.
have completed a minimum of 24 hours of coursework or have earned sophomore class standing.
maintain a minimum GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
preference given to those able to work on site at a reduced schedule through the school year.
