Primary Responsibilities
- Manage inventory levels to ensure timely deliveries that meet customer demands while minimizing carrying costs and avoiding premium transportation expenses.
- Develop and oversee procedures for the annual physical inventory process, including the accurate counting and valuation of year-end inventory, and coordinate these activities with the Accounting department.
- Drive improvements in plant material flow for raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods.
- Oversee and ensure effective production control planning and scheduling to meet sales forecasts, balancing workforce and machine capacity. Ensure any deviations from the production schedule are thoroughly investigated and appropriately addressed.
- Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers regarding order releases and delivery schedules.
- Collaborate with the Purchasing Department to manage the procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and services required for company operations, including all inventory items. Work with stakeholders when specific vendors or sources are requested. Identify and resolve issues related to material shortages, regardless of the cause.
- Establish purchasing practices and policies to ensure honest, fair, and ethical relationships with vendors.
- Keep informed on legal matters that affect purchasing policies.
- Responsibility for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity, and delivery.
- Manage the shipping and receiving functions of the division and oversee the storage of purchased parts and finished goods.
- Responsible for the motivation and development of the team to optimize their performance, as well as their personal and professional growth.
Education, Skills, and Experience
- Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Operations or related.
- 15+ years of experience in a vertically-integrated, heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
- SAP
- Strong Focus on Scheduling and Production Planning.
- Must be a Hands-on, working Manager who has experience leading a team that includes: Purchasing, Production Planning, Inventory Control, Cycle Counting, Shipping/Receiving, and Warehousing operations.
- Lean
- Scheduling experience.
- Ideally someone who came up through the ranks and worked in all levels of Supply Chain.
- Cast Iron experience would be a plus!
