Position Overview:
We are seeking a Lab Technician to join our research laboratory team at MSKCC. This role plays a vital part in supporting clinical research projects by processing and managing various biological samples.
As a Lab Technician, you will primarily support our biomarker sample project while assisting with other lab functions as needed. You will be responsible for receiving, processing, storing, and shipping samples to other MSK laboratories for analysis. This role is essential in ensuring smooth lab operations, particularly for weekend shifts, which have been challenging to cover.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sample Management: Receive, process, and store various biological specimens such as saliva, urine, and bone marrow.
- Data Entry: Accurately enter sample data into laboratory computer systems and ensure the accuracy of all tests by adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Sample Distribution: Coordinate with other MSK labs to send out samples for further analysis.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily equipment maintenance, including freezers and centrifuges, and maintain accurate logs.
- Lab Safety & Organization: Ensure a clean, safe, and adequately supplied work area, adhering to lab safety protocols.
- Support Lab Operations: Contribute to the upkeep of the lab and assist with training and feedback for routine laboratory procedures.
- Weekend Coverage: Provide essential weekend lab support. You will work Saturday and/or Sunday to help cover gaps in the current schedule.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience: 1-2 years of laboratory experience preferred. Oncology experience is a plus but not required. Experience using basic lab equipment (e.g., pipettes) is essential.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Word and Excel; experience with laboratory management software is a plus.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Schedule:
- Weekend Shifts: Saturday and/or Sunday, 9 AM – 5 PM.
- Weekday Shifts: 3 days during the week, 9am-5pm
