An advanced business and litigation law firm, with offices in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, is in search of a Legal Assistant to join its dynamic Litigation department. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering administrative support to litigation attorneys and paralegals, undertaking various legal functions under attorney supervision. Key responsibilities include handling administrative and clerical tasks associated with legal proceedings, collaborating with court administrators and judges, as well as law firm clients and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Assist multiple attorneys in managing all administrative phases of a litigation case including litigation motion practice, discovery, arbitration, trial, and appellate procedures.
- Prepare and file pleadings with courts, compile motion packages for court filings, and monitor case filings while providing detailed assessments to attorneys.
- Conduct legal research on procedural rules for court venues in New England, ensuring adherence.
- Perform administrative and clerical tasks including but not limited to editing documents, proofreading, formatting, communicating with clients, opening and closing files, organizing firm files, conducting conflict checks, calendar coordination between multiple attorneys, and general administrative support for attorneys.
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of litigation experience and an associate degree in legal studies or a related field are required.
- An understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings, and processes.
- Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as great attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
