Our client is a beauty/personal care contract manufacturer in the San Fernando Valley area and they are looking for a Product Development Manager with current PD manager experience in cosmetics.
General Description:
The Product Development Manager oversees the Product Development process and growth of current and future beauty care products that meet brand strategy and product launches within Marketing Calendar timeframes. Leads and supports New Product Development (NPD) through Stage-Gate process and all pre and post evaluations. Provides technical support to existing products as needed.
Specific Responsibilities & Duties:
• Acts as the front-end contact with the client and ensures a proper follow up on any requests for new products
• Plans, manages, and completes technical programs necessary to design, develop and optimize new and improved formulations, products, delivery systems for products that meet customer needs and are robust and reproducible.
• Works with R&D, CSR, Purchasing and other departments facing functions, such as Finance, Product Structure, etc.
• Ensures proper documentation for all technical and project work is completed.
• Understands application, benefits, and costs to Company product portfolio.
• Provides input on budget allocation and project prioritization.
• Identifies new product trends and product portfolio opportunities. Identifies innovation, new trends and formulary/ raw ingredient suppliers
• Initiates new product proposals through the development, execution, and cross-functional team distribution
• Briefs all cross-functional team members on product profiles, timelines, and launch plans to drive successful development and timely launch.
• Works closely with Engineering to check feasibility, tooling.
• Evaluates new formula submissions, provide feedback, and re-directs
• Follows up with client on clinical and external product testing; ensure timetables are met for stability, compatibility, RIPT, no-tear, etc., and OTC to ensure on-time product launch.
• Works with R&D and Laboratories to follow up on pilots. Works with R&D to provide clients technical product info for Marketing literature and packaging copy. • Follows up on getting artwork from client, fill weight claim and confirms with QA Department.
• Works closely with Regulatory to ensure compliance of product packaging, product claims and formulas
• Responsible to provide client with the pricing on new project or existing items that need to be updated.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration
• MUST have a Minimum 5+ years’ Product Development or Project Manager experience in Personal Care, Cosmetics; preferably in the process manufacturing or an FDA regulated industry.
• Training or Certifications in Project
• Breadth of technical knowledge and experience in application in Over the Counter (OTC) Consumer Packaged Goods.
• Proven ability to deliver programs on time and within budget
• Product lifecycle management (PLM) system knowledge is preferred
• Advance PC Knowledge i.e. MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required. Required Advanced knowledge in QAD or other comparable ERP/MRP systems.
• Achieving thoroughness and accuracy in completing multiple prioritized projects.
