Nonprofit Chief Development Officer

Our client, one of the largest and most prominent nationally recognized nonprofit organizations in Houston, is seeking a Chief Development Officer. As a key member of the executive leadership team, this position provides strategic oversight to the Marketing & Communications department and brand management. This fundraising executive is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing strategies that increase, diversify, and sustain philanthropic support through the solicitation of major gift prospects, including corporate, foundation, and individual contributors, as well as organizational partners.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and oversees annual fundraising budget and plan, including direct mail, grants, corporate partnerships, major gifts, special events, planned giving, giving societies, in-kind gifts, and cause related marketing campaigns.
- Develops multi-year organizational fundraising strategies and campaigns.
- Builds relationships and seeks collaboration with strategic and mission-aligned corporations,
foundations, and individual donors.
- Required to develop and maintain a donor portfolio with seven-figure annual fundraising goal.
- Responsible for setting and meeting development objectives, evaluating results, and developing corrective strategies as needed.
- Oversees communications department that includes media relations, digital, and editorial.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of fundraising and communications programs and establishes
metrics for annual goals and objectives to ensure funding.
- Works closely with the CEO, CFO, and Board of Directors to create and execute Capital Campaigns, as appropriate.
- Ensures that appropriate policies and procedures are in place to effectively track, acknowledge, and manage all donations.
- Develops the strategy and oversees all aspects of donor identification, acquisition, cultivation, and stewardship.
- Achieves fundraising targets.
- Participates in leadership team meetings and other related executive decision-making.
- Provides leadership with updates on funding opportunities and brand awareness activities
- Develops and manages relationships with top donors and prospects.
- Provides guidance and support to President & CEO, Board, Development Committee members, development team, and staff in their cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and engagement activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Marketing, Communications, or a closely related field
- Minimum of 10 years of professional, proven, and verifiable fundraising experience
- Proven and verifiable experience securing multiple seven-figure gifts
- Minimum of 5 years management experience
- Proven ability to work with donors and C-Suite executive volunteers
- Proven track record of successfully securing major gift support, with a focus on completing and closing six and seven-figure asks
- Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with fundraising constituents such as major contributors and corporations
- Experience with prospect databases (Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred)
- Experience working with non-profit organizations preferred
