Job Summary:
The Union and Labor Relations Manager is part of the Legal leadership team which provides operational and strategic direction for the department. This position oversees union and labor employee relations, serves as lead negotiator, and works closely with the Chief Compliance Officer to manage and resolve complaints while managing complex labor relation negotiations with multiple unions. This position’s focus is balancing organizational goals with employee welfare.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Union Negotiations & Conflict Resolution: Expertly manage complex labor relations negotiations with multiple unions and resolve conflicts, balancing organizational goals with employee welfare.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including union representatives and executive leadership, to develop comprehensive labor relations strategies.
- Program Management: Oversee the entire scope of the labor relations program, encompassing personal handling of grievances, disciplinary actions, and dispute resolution.
- Organizational Consultation: Serve as a key consultant to the executive team on labor relations matters, guiding informed decision-making.
- Future Planning: Actively participate in planning for the organization’s workforce future, leveraging insights from labor relations to inform HR strategies.
- Serves as a negotiator on the company’s negotiating team and as a spokesperson with all union employee groups. Develops bargaining strategy in conjunction with bargaining team; maintains accurate notes of negotiating sessions; drafts proposed language to be included in negotiated agreements; prepares contracts for publication reflecting language agreed to by both parties; ensures that labor contracts comply with all applicable state and federal laws.
- Analyzes negotiation proposals to determine their impact and potential implementation problems; works closely with Human Resources and Finance staff to develop compensation plans and procedures, calculates the cost of changes in salary rates or benefit programs proposed for negotiation, and develops and articulates costing approach as it relates to negotiation strategy.
- Makes recommendations to the management team regarding the disposition of grievances; works with operations managers to respond to grievances; will be involved in preparation for arbitration hearings
- Meets with representatives of recognized employee groups to discuss problems or issues not adequately covered by the current negotiated agreements.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Can independently develop reports, spreadsheets, diagrams, charts, graphs, and other products that may be needed. (e.g. – MS Word, Excel, SharePoint, Salesforce, Adobe, Outlook, HRIS)
- A strong understanding of Collective Bargaining Agreements and union relations.
- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking and time management skills.
- A great communicator who understands the value of teamwork.
- Comfortable in an ever-changing, fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, HR, or any related field. (highly preferred)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in collective bargaining and union labor relations activities.
- Must maintain flexibility regarding job assignments, including other departments, locations, and mandatory overtime.
- Time and travel flexibility depending on the needs of the company
