The Houston office of Thompson Coe, LLP seeks an attorney with 2 to 5 years' experience in civil litigation to join the Casualty section of the firm. Thompson Coe, LLP is a 250+ attorney firm with offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio, Texas; New Orleans, Louisiana; St. Paul, Minnesota; New York City; and Honolulu. Formed in 1950, Thompson Coe has been providing top-notch legal services to its clients for 70-plus years. About the Role:
The associate in this position will defend a variety of casualty cases, including wrongful death and survival actions, products liability, premises liability, dramshop, trucking and transportation, construction litigation, and other matters involving catastrophic personal injuries and/or property damage. The associate will handle the day-to-day aspects of this work, including client meetings, reporting and investigation, and taking and attending depositions, hearings, mediations and arbitrations and/or trials. Depending on the size and exposure of the case, the candidate will independently handle the case or work closely with a partner.
Candidates should have a working knowledge of state and federal civil procedure, and excellent advocacy and writing skills. Litigation experience, including taking and defending depositions, drafting and arguing motions, attending mediations, reporting to clients and insurance carriers, and billing is strongly preferred. Valid Texas BAR license required.
Responsibilities:
- Handle docket of casualty cases with partner supervision
- Client meetings, reporting, and investigation
- Discovery and motion practice
- Take and attend depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials
- Independently handle cases or work closely with a partner
Qualifications:
Valid Texas BAR license required.
At least 2 years' experience in civil litigation.

Pay range and compensation package:
Compensation package includes base salary, dependent upon experience, with quarterly bonus potential based on hours billed rather than collections; 401(k) with profit share; paid parental leave; healthcare; and flexible work environment.
