What you’re applying for
CIRMA seeks a Senior Liability Claims Adjuster to ensure the efficient processing and resolution of assigned claims. You will be responsible for obtaining and documenting materials claim facts, consistent with CIRMA’s in-house liability claims handling procedures, and conduct detailed first- and third-party claim investigations to make liability determinations based on municipal statutory legal defenses and immunities. The Senior Liability Claims Adjust will make timely assessments based on their findings and draft appropriate coverage letters to CIRMA policyholders. Qualified candidates must demonstrate effective management of pending claims of varying complexity across across several lines of business (including auto, general, and professional lines of liability) and relating to multiple professions, including law enforcement, school leaders, and public officials. Candidates should also demonstrate superior customer service skills and the ability work collaboratively within the organization.
What you’re applying for–in this role you will:
- Obtain and document material claim facts on assigned claims consistent with CIRMA’s in-house liability claims handling procedures.
- Make timely coverage assessments and draft appropriate coverage letters to CIRMA policyholders.
- Conduct thorough, detailed first and third-party claim investigations and make liability determinations.
- Effective management of a pending caseload of varying complexity across several lines of business, including auto, general, and professional lines liability, including law enforcement, school leaders, and public officials’ liability.
- Determine liability by applying municipal statutory legal defenses and immunities.
- Display superior customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively within the organization.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU’LL NEED TO BRING THE FOLLOWING SKILLS TO THE TABLE:
- Prior knowledge of auto and general liability, property damage, bodily injury, and professional lines insurance coverages.
- Ability to effectively manage a senior claims desk comprising complex, litigated state and federal claims.
- Working knowledge of federal and state court processes and procedures.
- Proven ability to effectively negotiate claims, resulting in cost-effective resolutions.
- Participation in virtual and in-person claim reviews, settlement conferences, and mediations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills. Sound decision-making skill set.
- Ability to present claims at internal roundtable discussions and Advisory Committee meetings.
- Strong time management skills and timely responses to external communications (phone/email).
YOU’LL ALSO NEED THE FOLLOWING ATTRIBUTES:
- 5-7 years of experience handling high-exposure, complex liability claims.
- Public entity claims handling experience is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Analyzing claim documentation and legal filings.
- Drafting coverage letters.
- Strategizing early settlement opportunities.
- Strong litigation management skills and ability to direct defense counsel.
- Virtual and in-person attendance at mediations and settlement conferences.
- Proven track record of negotiation and cost-effective settlements.
- Assessing exposures and adequacy of claim reserves.
- Reporting severe, high-exposure claims to CIRMA’s reinsurer based on applicable Reinsurer Reportable Guidelines.
