Job Overview
The Manufacturing Safety Engineer is responsible for developing, directing, and implementing environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) programs to prevent workplace injuries and work-related health risks and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations. This role serves as a technical resource for supervisors and management, identifying risks and promoting a proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
- EH&S Compliance and Policy Management: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EH&S compliance policies and procedures aligned with industry standards and regulations.
- Training and Guidance: Identify, design, and conduct training sessions for employees to foster awareness and understanding of EH&S regulations and best practices.
- Regulatory Liaison and Risk Management: Serve as the primary point of contact with federal, state, and local environmental and safety agencies, conducting risk assessments to identify potential risks and gaps in safety systems.
- Accident Investigation and Reporting: Investigate workplace incidents, collaborating with HR to report accurately and promptly. Provide recommendations for improvements to mitigate future risks.
- Environmental Management and Hazard Control: Manage and oversee hazardous materials communications, monitor workplace conditions, and implement control measures to minimize employee exposure to dangerous substances.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least two years in a supervisory or management role. Prior experience in a heavy industrial setting is highly preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations and federal, state, and local EH&S requirements. Experience in developing and managing Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in line with ISO standards.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel is essential for maintaining reports and communications. Experience with safety data management and risk assessment tools is highly valued.
- Communication Skills: Bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred to effectively communicate safety protocols and training with a diverse workforce.
- Problem-solving and Analytical Skills: Strong ability to conduct risk assessments, analyze environmental and safety issues data, and recommend actionable safety improvements.
