AD Energy are recruiting for a Director of Operations for one of our key clients who are going through a continued and exciting period of growth. They have multiple Biogas Operations all across the USA and are looking for a Director of Operations located at their offices in Pennsylvania.
Director of Operations role summary:
The Director of Operations will lead the Company’s national Operations team to successfully commission, operate and maintain the Company’s growing portfolio of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and Biogas Power Generation projects. The operational footprint encompasses a wide range of equipment and processes including, but not limited to, all aspects of anaerobic digestion, waste/material handling and logistics, landfill wellfield management, biogas upgrading, power generation, CNG trucking, and pipeline/interconnect facilities. In addition to being technically capable and detail oriented, the successful candidate will possess excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills and will have demonstrated ability to lead field based teams to deliver expected operational results for both small- and large-scale projects.
The Successful candidate will be customer based and will strive to ensure the strategic direction of the Operations team supports customer needs. The candidate will understand project specific performance requirements and ensure entire project lifecycles are executed at the highest level to ensure customer satisfaction and service levels that are second to none. Individual will work with Executive Management, Corporate Development, Business Development, Project Execution, and administrative departments to ensure the business is successful in all phases of project operations across the portfolio.
Director of Operations Responsibilities
- Lead team of Operations Managers and field-based technicians responsible for the successful and safe operations and maintenance of project portfolio
- Oversee execution and deliverables of the Biogas Operations team. Provide daily guidance and feedback on key operational decisions, contracts, schedules, budgets, execution plans, maintenance programs, etc., to ensure team is on track to deliver performance requirements of each specific project.
- Review customer, vendor, offtake, pipeline and utility contracts – provide contract guidance to appropriate parties.
- Oversee document control and ensure project documentation adheres to industry operational, engineering, compliance, safety and regulatory standards.
- Participate in team update meetings to receive facility updates, assess facility status, review regional inventory management, update regional P&L statements, and provide necessary feedback to ensure all operational initiatives are on track.
- Lead facility review meetings and make necessary recommendations to upper management and/or investors to allow for the successful execution of the project portfolio.
- Participate in discussions with customers (dairymen, landfills, developers, etc.) to ensure project is properly and holistically understood and team is continually positioned to execute project to customer’s satisfaction.
- Understand nuance of RNG laws and marketplace at the Federal, State, and Local levels and position the business and our customers to optimize success with current and future compliance guidelines and requirements.
- Provide strategic direction and input related to the business opportunities – know the market, understand where the market is going and position the business and customers to capitalize
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies
Director of Operations Required Experience and Skills
- Five plus (5+) years of direct Operations and five plus (5+) years of leadership experience in operations and/or engineering in biogas/natural gas processing, gas facility design or anaerobic digestion projects.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead diverse team within multiple operating regions.
- Experience building out, expanding and retaining talented field-based staffing, along with providing adequate mentorship and training as necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems and be customer focused to deliver project deliverables and performance requirements.
- Ability to review P&L statements and assess operating trajectory; ability to provide recommendations to Executive Management team to ensure each operating region is meeting target profit margins
- Ability to provide strategic direction to technical and operationally oriented teams; demonstrated ability to focus on process improvement and team efficiency
- Must possess ability to interpret engineering drawings and provide feedback to the engineering team for optimization efforts to enhance the operability and capability of the processing facilities.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and meet company insurability requirements
Director of Operations Competencies, skills, and abilities:
- Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills o Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience and Skills
- Ability to develop operating budgets, and work with Corporate Development to assess economic viability of projects
- Experience directly managing or participating in the detailed design of biogas/RNG processing and/or related facilities
- Experience with SAP
- Experience with compliance data gathering and reporting for EPA’s RIN and CARB’s LCFS programs for carbon credit generation
- Direct Dairy and/or Landfill RNG Experience Physical Demands / Working Environment
Regularly Required to:
- Talk and hear; verbally express ideas, information and instructions
- Present in both large and small group settings, manage meetings •
- Travel to job sites; walk job sites and assist with:
- P&ID walks, instrument checks, QA/QC reviews, minor equipment installs
- Employee, vendor, and investor site walks
- Operational troubleshooting
- Work in front of desk/computer for a majority of the workday
- Be available to communicate with direct reports or other key stakeholders for operational issues/challenges outside of normal working hours due to the nature of 24/7/365 operations
