SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Manager for the Machine Shop is responsible for the operational and fiscal activities of the department. The manager oversees all machine shop departments. The manager must plan and develop systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the department by performing the duties listed below
Responsibilities
- Manage the operational and fiscal activities of the department to include: staffing level, direct labor utilization and earned hours, efficiency, forecast achievement, and budget requirements.
- Plan and develop systems and procedures to improve the operating quality and efficiency of the department.
- Responsible for planning within each work center and aligning schedules to meet needs of downstream departments and customer requirements.
- Responsible for executing daily schedule and providing ECD’s for work orders in all work centers.
- Analyze and document business processes and problems. Develop solutions to enhance efficiencies.
- Drive productivity and operational cost reduction throughout the department.
- Identify, develop, and implement capital projects to improve productivity, quality, and support volume growth. Drive improvements through automated processes.
- Supervise employees in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Conduct interviews, help in hiring, and provide employee orientation.
- Establish employee goals and conduct employee performance reviews. Drive daily accountability.
- Responsible for scheduling work assignments, employee training, employee vacations and overtime assignment.
- Assist Human Resources with employee issues.
- Schedule and conduct department meetings.
- Communicate with all Supervisors, Directors, and Vice Presidents.
- Keep areas clean according to 5S standards.
- Follows all safety rules as set by the company.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Has the responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of his and/or her assigned department(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Has the responsibility of making monthly, quarterly and yearly company goals as established by executive management.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a technical discipline.
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in a production environment, aerospace preferred.

- Knowledge of manufacturing concepts, practices and procedures.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal and coaching skills.
- Computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment and experience with MRP system.
- Knowledge of management and supervisory principles.

- Hydraulics and aerospace experience a plus.
