Job Description
Duties and responsibilities:
1. Install, troubleshoot, diagnose, upgrade, program, and repair various types of electronic systems and subsystems including Motorola 700 MHz radios and associated consoles, bidirectional amplifiers (BDAs), low power FM radio stations, bus CCTV systems, NEC PBX and office telephones, Metro station telephones, Metro emergency telephones, Metro and Light-Rail public address systems and electronic messaging signs, intercom systems, traffic signal priority equipment, network switches and routers.
2. Provide technical services to repair and maintain the SONET Ring and OTN networks, and other network infrastructures that require intercommunications between systems or components. Must possess the ability to use a fiber splicer for fiber repair.
3. Work closely with network analysts to monitor, diagnose, and treat technical issues related to almost all aspects of computer networking operations.
4. Assist System Administrators supporting backend integration with mobile CCTV equipment, and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
5. Provide technical support for all approved software including technical assistance to individuals and/or groups.
6. Operate specialized test equipment to diagnose problems including OTDRs, Spectrum Analyzers, VOMs, ethernet cable testers.
7. Perform inspections, incidental servicing, repairs, replacements, scheduled preventive maintenance, emergency maintenance, and other corrective work, to maintain component or system hardware in satisfactory working condition.
8. Ensure prompt responses to critical and high priority events by telephone/email/workorder or otherwise as requested by an client representative.
9. Install and maintain radios, emergency lights, and sirens in vehicles.
10. Install software and firmware updates as required by the client to maintain functionality, enhance features, or increase security of various systems or components.
11. Read and utilize schematics, wire and circuit diagrams to install or repair systems.
12. Monitor system alarms and take corrective action to resolve.
13. Provide management with recommendations to enhance systems’ performance.
14. Receive work assignments either from management staff, through Maximo, or email. The candidate will be responsible for monitoring all means of communication.
15. Update and complete workorders in Maximo ticketing system.
16. Provide informational updates to team members during the change of work hour shifts.
17. Communicate requests, needs, and concerns to management staff using authorized methods.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Proficient in the use of computers operating on Windows 10 or Windows 11.
2. Possess and maintain a current 2nd Class or 1st Class Federal Communications Commission Radio Telephone Operator License.
3. Possess a valid driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of Maryland.
4. Possess the required tools to perform on-site and field maintenance service and repairs. client includes, but not limited to, a list of commonly used tools. Please reference separate attachment.
5. Five (5) years of experience working in the field of electro-mechanics or radio electronics or electronic systems including logic systems, digital circuitry, and electro-mechanical devices.
6. Completion of a four (4) year vocational or technical high school course of instruction in electronics, electricity or electro-mechanical maintenance or a related field, formal technical training or on-the-job training in an approved apprenticeship program may be substituted for up to four years of the required experience.
7. May substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
