Director of Coffee Manufacturing
Lucky Goat Coffee is a specialty coffee roaster based out of Tallahassee, Florida and making waves nationally. Since opening in 2010, Lucky Goat Coffee has continued to remain focused on the expansion of the brand through exceptional customer interactions and company specialization. On the journey towards greater specialization, the Director of Coffee Manufacturing position has been created.
This position oversees the pursuit of excellence in our Coffee Plants execution, quality, and order fulfillment standards for all areas of coffee production. The right candidate will display a keen eye for detail, has an emphasis on quality control and a passion for expanding their knowledge within the coffee production world.
Primary Function
This position serves as a leadership role to our Production, Roasting, Cold Brew, and Shipping teams. This individual will be accountable for all daily manufacturing operations, meeting demand and maintaining low defect rate across all manufacturing and shipping segments.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing production teams within the food and beverage industry, preferably in coffee manufacturing.
- Knowledge of automation equipment and systems is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of production management principles, quality control practices, FIFO and lean manufacturing concepts.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, Shopify, and organizational software and systems.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and a commitment to creating a safe work environment.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Lift over 50 pounds regularly and able to bend, kneel, squat, among others.
- Always displays a customer first, positive attitude and approach to the business.
Job Description
- Efficiently develop and manage resources, team members, and budget to ensure timely delivery of orders while maintaining accuracy, product quality, and order fulfillment standards.
- Assign, supervise, and manage the day-to-day operations of the production facility teams’ daily tasks as needed.
- Facilitate and oversee communication between production department leads to meet all fulfillment timelines, quality standards, and annual budgets.
- Collaborate with procurement, sales, branding, service, and distribution departments to ensure seamless production flow and timely resolution of any issues.
- Monitor and control all inventory items to minimize waste, reduce costs, and optimize resource utilization.
- Oversee the needs of the e-commerce department to fulfill orders, stock shelves, and assist with shipping during high-volume seasons and sales, with the expectation of packed for shipment within 24 hours of receiving the order.
- Collaborate with the VP of Operations and Head of Product Development to monitor and verify the effectiveness of sanitation, hygiene, and food safety practices.
- Train, oversee, and ensure production employees’ strict adherence to HACCP, health, and food safety standards across all production processes, from raw material handling to finished product packaging.
- Collaborate with HR in the screening and interview process for potential new hires, evaluating their technical skills, experience, and cultural fit within the production team.
- Facilitate the onboarding and training of new hires, ensuring they receive comprehensive instruction on production processes, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Conduct monthly performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement corrective actions to enhance team productivity and individual performance.
- Maintain daily and monthly cleaning regiment and ensure regular maintenance on production equipment so machines are always performing at an optimal level.
- This position is a departmental key holder responsible for opening and closing shifts daily.
Reporting
This position reports to the Vice President of Operations and works closely alongside other Operations Managers including but not limited to Distribution Manager, Purchasing Manager, and Service Manager.
The Master Roaster, Brewery Manager, and all Shipping, QC, and Production Leads report up to the Director of Coffee Manufacturing.
