We are seeking a skilled and experienced Computer Security System Specialist to join our team on-site in North Bethesda, MD. The Security Engineer will perform a variety of operational information technology tasks independently or under the supervision of System Engineers or an ISSO. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of IT systems, and supporting the overall security framework of the organization. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform IT operational security tasks, including monitoring, detection, and incident response.
- Assist in securing network infrastructure and ensuring compliance with security policies and standards.
- Implement and manage security solutions to protect systems from vulnerabilities and threats.
- Collaborate with system administrators, engineers, and ISSOs to mitigate security risks.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify and resolve security issues.
- Monitor security events and ensure timely response to incidents.
- Participate in risk assessments and contribute to the development of security policies and procedures.
- Provide security guidance and support for IT projects and operational processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent and six years of relevant experience in an IT operational security role.
- One or more of the following certifications are required:
- Enterasys Certified Expert (ECE) – Network Security
- Enterasys Certified Expert (ECE) – Security Information Management
- IBM Certified Associate – Rational AppScan Source Edition
- Security+ Certified Systems Engineer
- SANS Institute Global Information Assurance Certification – Security Essentials (GIAC GSEC)
- SANS Institute Global Information Assurance Certification – Certified Incident Handler (GIAC GCIH)
- EnCase Digital Forensics Certification
- (ISC)2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- (ISC)2 Systems Security Certified Practitioner
- SANS Institute General Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) Security Expert
- Security Certified Program (SCP) Security Certified Network Architect
- SCP Security Certified Network Professional
Desired Skills:
- Strong understanding of network security principles and practices.
- Experience with incident response, vulnerability management, and digital forensics.
- Familiarity with security frameworks such as NIST, ISO, and SANS best practices.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
