Job Description
General Summary
The Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist of the Simulation Center is responsible for the day to day operation of all equipment in the center along with logistics and maintenance of that equipment. Setup and cleanup of courses and providers assistance to the courses scheduled by the Simulation Center. Assist Training & Simulation Manager and work with Healthcare Simulation Operations Technicians with day-to-day operation and strategic development of a high-fidelity medical simulations and their immersive environment focused on medical training.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
- Organize the placement of equipment and supplies in storerooms. Create and maintain sign-out sheets and other record keeping methods to track inventory location and level.
- Perform preventive maintenance of equipment according to manufacturers' recommendations. Monitor scheduled maintenance to ensure that equipment is operational. Work with manufacturers or vendors to correct equipment deficiencies in order to minimize down time.
- Manage inventory levels and maintain an ongoing inventory record.
- Maintain records of courses and their equipment/supply needs.
- Develop course curricula alongside Nurse Educators and Physicians. Support development with technical knowledge of the Simulation Center capabilities and ensure that Hospital, NAEMT, MIEMSS, and AHA Protocols and algorithms are used with best educational practices..
- Develop technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation including but not limited to operations/maintenance/repairs of all equipment, operations of all software, setup of all labs including moulage/and cadaver labs with preparation of task trainers/simulators/medical equipment. Develop technical proficiency in clinical skills comparable to that of a Paramedic, RN, and RT.
- Act as point of contact with the equipment manufacturers for trouble-shooting equipment and systems problems.
- Complete hardware and software updates provided by vendors and manufacturers.
- Assist with the operation of the simulators in training sessions when requested.
- Demonstrate and teach technical aspects of operating simulators to facilitators and instructors.
- Support the goals and mission statement of the Simulation Center.
- Provide summaries of records to support monthly and annual operations reports.
- Provide feedback to the center manager from trainees and instructors concerning facilities, equipment, and courses.
- Move equipment and supplies into and out of all simulation spaces as scheduled/requested. Complete sign-in and sign-out of equipment and other records to track inventory locations and levels.
- Research vendors for supplies and equipment to assist in procuring supplies based on a comparison and then obtain quotes.
- Maintain and operate AV equipment and assist with AV needs of courses.
- Facilitate, brief, debrief, work as a standardized participant, and instruct for courses as requested.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Two (2) years of medical simulation experience or an equivalent combination of education and alternate experience is required (Simulation experience can be substituted for Clinical Educator Experience)
- One (1) year of experience as a medical provider/clinician/Technician or an additional two (2) years of medical simulation experience and or its equivalent is required.
- BLS or CPR/First Aid Instructor Certification is required or must obtain within One (1) year of employment.
- Prior completion of ACLS, PALS, and a Trauma Life Support certification course is required or completion of these courses must be obtained within One (1) year of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidate must possess the KSA’s required to perform set up and troubleshooting on the following technologies.
- A/V Systems using computer and web cams to view and record a lab.
- High Fidelity Simulators.
- General Medical Equipment used in a hospital and prehospital setting such as: Beds, Stretchers, LUCAS Devices, Patient Monitors and Defibrillators, Ventilators, Suction, IV Pumps, and more.
- General Clinical Skills such as: Bag Valve Mask Ventilation, CPR, Defibrillation, Synchronized Cardioversion, Transcutaneous Pacing, BLS Airway Placement, Intubation, IV Insertion, Medication Administration, and more.
- Windows and Apple OS for iPads.
- Power Point, Excel, Word, Google Docs/Sheets/Presentation, Smart sheets.
- Moulage.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in a hospital-based simulation environment. Duties may be performed on medical units and clinics as well as at outside facilities at Insitu locations as requested.
- Primary shift will be Monday-Friday daylight hours but may require evenings, weekends, and holidays as requested.
- Attire will be either scrubs or business casual with closed toed shoes except when otherwise specified.
- Requires regular lifting, moving, pushing, and pulling of simulators, task trainers, and other medical equipment and supplies.
