Summary:
The Associate Scientist’s primary responsibility is the execution and documentation of scientific experiments and maintaining laboratory equipment. The position assists scientific staff in conducting and reporting the results of laboratory experiments. The individual monitors ongoing experiments for any unusual occurrences. The individual will develop a practical understanding of own scientific discipline and apply this knowledge in support of product development.

Essential Functions:
- General knowledge of basic, viral vector, chemical and/or biochemical analysis and associated techniques.
- Assist with virus titration methods.
- Routinely follow established protocols and SOPs to produce highly reproducible results.
- Assist with method transfers and method development.
- Prepare buffer solutions and perform other lab duties related to methods development.
- Collect and analyze data, summarize results and report results.
- Maintain a laboratory notebook according to company guidelines.
- Maintain analytical instrumentation as needed and interface with external vendors for instrument installation and operation qualifications.
- Independent use and application of instrumentation, computer systems and software for data acquisition and analysis
- Ensure lab is maintained (organized, clean, properly supplied).
- All other duties as may be assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to perform biochemical assays such as SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, HPLC, ELISA, molecular assays such as ddPCR and qPCR.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to clearly communicate in writing and verbally with internal staff.
- Capable of monitoring ongoing experiments for any unusual occurrences
- An understanding of and application of required techniques in support of projects and studies according to pre-defined plans and protocols
- Able to assist in the implementation of new methods and processes
- Basic equipment troubleshooting
- Detail oriented and accurate.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments with little supervision.
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

- Experience prolonged standing, along with some bending, stooping, and stretching.

- Potential for exposure to hazardous chemicals, gases, fumes, odors, mists, and dusts, and other hazardous materials.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds on occasion and 25 pounds regularly.
- Ability to wear PPE.
- Attendance is mandatory.
Minimum Qualifications (in addition to the required skill sets and abilities):
- Bachelor’s Degree in a science related field with 1 year of relevant experience; OR
- Associate’s Degree in a science related field with 4 years of relevant experience.
