Senior Quality Engineer
The Quality Engineer reports directly to the Operations Director of Highland Road Quartz Plant and is responsible for the safe and effective operations of the site quality control functions. The Quality Engineer will oversee all aspects of quality compliance, implementation & development of quality systems & ensuring efficient & effective quality assurance for all products. This role will interface with Business Leaders to ensure the sites comply with ISO9001 and other relevant standards, as well as global QMS requirements. This role will also interface with Business Leaders supporting Supplier Quality, Product Quality/Quality Control, Customer Quality and continuous improvement teams to improve the sites’ processes.
Role and Responsibilities
- Responsible for supervising maintenance, calibration, and analysis (gauge R&R) for laboratory instruments in the Production areas.
- Align and participate in and support all aspects of the Company or sites’ EHS, 5S, and Continuous Improvement programs, processes, and strategic goals.
- Support NPI, MOC, and procurement processes for the Quality function
- Responsible for leading, creating, publishing and maintaining Test and Verification Methods including Engineering tests and Validation plans
- Responsible for supervising in-process and final testing for raw materials, intermediate materials and final products
- Responsible to identify need and arrange purchase of new test equipment
- Responsible for ensuring Quality SAP Master data is entered properly
- Comply with global, and site QMS processes and procedures
- Drive reduction of COPQ, customer complaints, and First Pass Reject rates
- Provides leadership and coaching to Process Quality Technician(s)
- Support Customer Complaint, Product failure, and audit root cause investigations and corrective/preventive action implementations
- Support Supplier and external Quality activities including supplier corrective action requests, audits, and evaluations
- Identify and lead process improvement projects including facilitating of process improvement events that improve product quality and/or reduce process variation, which include RCCA process for the sites
- Responsible for customer specification reviews and ensuring the site meets the agreed to customer specifications.
- Review Quality KPIs with site leaders
- Create and/or Support Internal Audit plan and perform Internal Audits
- Leading and driving Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Statistical Quality Control (SQC) through analyzing and interpreting data to ensure results.
- Support and execute completion of customer questionnaires, customer waiver requests and quality agreement process
- Responsible for restricting suspect material batches
- Implement and maintain site QMS in accordance with the ISO9001 or other relevant standards and global QMS requirements
- Interact with other plants to resolve interplant issues and drive global initiatives
- Create work instructions & procedures and provide training on relevant processes
Qualifications
- 4-year undergraduate degree in science, engineering or similar field of study, technical major preferred
- 5+ years’ experience in quality, process engineering, or related role
- Strong leadership record
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Statistical analysis experience including utilization of Minitab
- Experience facilitating problem solving (root cause analysis) with corrective action through collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, and other support organizations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledgeable of Quality Standards, including ISO, IATF, FDA The Quality Engineer will be a highly motivated, quality and safety minded individual with strong organizational skills and experience driving improvement across a technical workforce.
- Have effective communications style that builds strong relationships and impacts outcomes and decisions.
- Experience in the definition, planning and management of projects. Outstanding problem-solving, presentation and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and in cross-cultural environments.
- Willing to join global calls/meetings outside of normal work hours as needed.
- Strong track record of working effectively as an individual contributor as well as in a cross-functional team of both peers and senior management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Continuous Improvement (Lean Six Sigma) certification, at least CI Practitioner (Green Belt) level.
- SAP (ERP) and QT9 (QMS) experience
- ISO9001 and EHS knowledge/experience
- Auditor training and experience
- Certified Quality Engineer (ASQ)
- Expert knowledge of the quality management system with auditor certification, or ability to achieve Lead Auditor Certification
- Knowledge of SAP QM functional module, and Master Data.
