We have an opportunity for a 2nd Shift Supervisor to join our recycle team in Louisville, KY.
About the Role
The primary duties of the shift supervisor include:
- Oversee the processes and baling of incoming recycling materials so that outbound recycling materials are acceptable for sale to various brokers or mills.
- Assign and oversee execution of production, safety, and housekeeping duties.
- Active participation in and encourage employee involvement in the Health and Safety Programs of WestRock.
Responsibilities
- Supervise production operations in accordance with plant policies and procedures for the plant.
- Train and coach operators.
- Conduct employee performance counseling.
- Responsible for shift schedule to include: workstation assignments, rotations, employee training, employee vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignment, back-up for absent employees, and temporary labor.
- Coordinate production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
- Coordinate with Operations Manager for appropriate staffing levels.
- Schedule and conduct shift meetings.
- Responsible for meeting shift production goals.
- Responsible for quality control. Make adjustments as necessary during shift to produce product within specifications. Reject product outside of specifications.
- Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs).
- Communicate with other Shift Supervisors and Operations Manager.
- Ensure a clean and safe work area.
- Complete shift paperwork.
- Assist in production as necessary.
- Authorization Training in the following: Lock out Tag out, Machine Guarding, Confined Space, Aerial, Loader, Bobcat, Forklift, and balers. (Will be trained in house)
- Maintain and aid to plant’s preventative maintenance program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the recycling processes, procedures, and machinery. This is normally acquired through two to five years of manufacturing experience.
- Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
Working Conditions
- Working conditions include a non-climate controlled environment.
- Communication with diverse staff.
- Work involves lifting materials and product up to 45 pounds.
- Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats.
- Must be able to work 2nd shift 2:30 - 11:00 PM ET.
