PumpMan Phoenix has an exciting opportunity for a Controls Electrician to join our team in Phoenix, AZ.
The Controls Electrician will be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electrical control systems for pumps, motors, and associated equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial / municipal controls and electrical systems, with specific experience in the pump and motor field.
Key Responsibilities:
Install and Maintain Electrical Systems:
- Install and wire electrical control systems for pumps, motors, and related equipment.
- Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints for system installations.
- Perform upgrades and modifications on existing control panels.
Troubleshoot and Repair:
- Diagnose and resolve electrical and control system issues related to pumps and motors.
- Use testing equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.) to troubleshoot problems.
- Repair or replace faulty electrical components, such as relays, circuit breakers, contactors, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and HMI systems.
Preventive Maintenance:
- Perform routine inspections of electrical systems to ensure proper operation.
- Identify and address potential electrical hazards and system failures before they occur.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities and system performance.
System Integration:
- Work closely with engineers and technicians to integrate control systems with mechanical and hydraulic components.
- Ensure that all control systems meet the necessary operational and safety standards.
Safety Compliance:
- Follow safety protocols and regulatory requirements (e.g., NEC, OSHA) for electrical work.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all electrical systems by adhering to industry standards.
- Lockout/tagout systems before working on electrical circuits or equipment.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school training or apprenticeship in electrical controls preferred.
- Experience:
- 3+ years of experience as an electrician, with a focus on industrial controls in the pump and motor field.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and automation.
Skills:
- Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical systems, including PLCs, VFDs, and motor control systems.
- Familiarity with control panel design, assembly, and modification.
- Knowledge of NEC and local electrical codes.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with automation systems, particularly related to pump and motor controls.
- Certification as a licensed electrician.
- Knowledge of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and other remote monitoring technologies.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including mechanical rooms, pump stations, and industrial settings.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and on ladders as required.
- May require lifting heavy equipment and components.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to stand, bend, and work in tight spaces for extended periods.
Schedule:
- Full-time, with occasional overtime required.
- Must be available for on-call shifts and emergency service calls as needed.
