Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (APRN) Role Scope
Along with practicing as a full time, clinical APP within the EP department, the AP clinical leader works with the physician division lead, the EP lab manager, the EP office manager, and service line director as well as AP peers in cardiac electrophysiology. Acts as a liaison between AP staff and oversees advanced practice staff regarding scheduling, assignments, training and education and is seen as an "expert" and a role model within the division. Contributes to the determination of the need for new clinical standard work as that need arises
Key Areas of Responsibility
Serve as a liaison between the service line director (or other appropriate HHC leaders), physician division lead, and team manager to identify individual patient and practice concerns, issues, and needs.
Responsible for determining the educational needs of APs, as well as other office staff, who care for specialty patients and work with the practice managers to implement such teaching. Provides mentorship to AP peers and meets with their teams routinely (monthly) to provide updates, review areas for improvement, and listen and respond to issues.
Assists with ensuring staff compliance with medical staff and department credentialing requirements.
Expectation to serve on (or assign a designee) HHC committees to promote quality, patient safety, education and AP advocacy. For example, the HHCMG APP council, the EP CQC meetings, the EP QA/M&M meetings, etc
Participate in the development of service-based competency training and credentialing of new advanced practitioner hires. Point person for onboarding and orientation for new AP hires (both inpatient and outpatient). Assists or leads screening and interviews for new AP team members.
Responsible for coordinating AP student placement within the division and/or APPs who are shadowing within EP from other departments.
Programmatic development as appropriate within the division.
Responsible for ensuring adequate APP staffing of all inpatient and outpatient roles within the division and coordinating scheduling. Assists in determining suitability for team member utilization of PTO and CME excused time.
Assists in ensuring compliance with mandatory staff training and documentation. May need to support director/manager with annual evaluation process and/or quality goals if appropriate. Collaborates with physician division leader and managers on performance evaluations as required.
Oversee/mentor all the EP APPs and serve as a liaison between clinical EP MD lead, outpatient office managers, RN team, Device clinic APP lead, EP lab RN lead, EP lab/pre/post Director, intra-hospital services (i.e. cardiac transfer service lead APP), cardiology fellows, 2nd floor arrhythmia RN team, various outpatient EP APP staff and EP APP team
Assist and coordinate APPs with other projects deemed necessary for the division by the physician division leader and/or managers such as core EP education of clinical staff (inpatient and outpatient), assistance with Epic order sets pertinent to EP, EP QI process, quality improvement projects, etc.

Qualifications
Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (APRN) Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Master's program preferred
Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (APRN) in the state of Connecticut
Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant or National Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner (APRN) through AACN or ANCC.
Cardiology experience preferred
Cardiac device management experience highly preferred
