The Mass NOW Foundation seeks a talented, independent feminist to fill the position of Part-Time Menstrual Equity Community Organizer.
The Massachusetts Chapter of the National Organization for Women (Mass NOW) is a multi-issue, multi-strategy feminist organization working to advance gender equity in the Commonwealth. The primary responsibilities of the Menstrual Equity Community Organizer include: communicating Mass NOW’s programming and actions to our community, engaging activists in their legislative and educational work and recruiting more activists to join Mass NOW. This role reports to the Executive Director.
About the Organization: For over 50 years Mass NOW has been one of the leading multi-issue, multi-strategy feminist organizations in the Commonwealth. Today, we are a member-led grassroots organization and we thrive on the support of our members, supporters, and allies. We are made up of three distinct branches: the Mass NOW Inc., Foundation, and PAC. The Mass NOW Foundation convenes and educates our feminist community through innovative, community-driven programming. In 2019 Mass NOW created the MA Menstrual Equity Coalition, organizing to end period poverty statewide.
Duties of the Community Organizer include event planning, fundraising and digital communication.
Position Description
- Strengthen a network of organizations with missions to expand access to free menstrual products, comprehensive reproductive health education, and health/support services.
- Support the menstrual product mutual aid program by coordinating and delivering menstrual product shipments from the Mass NOW storage unit in Boston (Jamaica Plain) to community partners around the state, including Worcester, the South Coast, and the Cape.
- Facilitate and schedule menstruation education workshops in-person and virtually
- Attend resource fairs to table and share menstruation education
- Mobilize participants to advocate for more equitable policies that support the rights of Menstruators in Massachusetts.
- Develop web, and social media content to promote Mass NOW programming and the Massachusetts Menstrual Equity Coalition in collaboration with the Executive Director, Community Organizer staff and consultants
- Assist in planning Mass NOW's signature programming: The Feminist Affair, The State Conference, International Women's Day Breakfast, Advocacy Day at the State House, Rallies Against Period Poverty, and We Make Noise Fest
- Cultivate and solicit volunteers across the Commonwealth for Mass NOW Foundation and the Massachusetts Menstrual Equity Coalition
- Execute a grassroots donors strategy
Specific Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Experience presenting virtually and in-person to groups of 30+ people
- Ability to work independently with minimal guidance or management support
- A strong multi-tasker, work well under pressure to meet deadlines, and able to self-manage time and workflow to maximize efficiency
- Valid driver's license required with access to a vehicle and ability to travel around the state
- Experience with Google Suite, Canva, EveryAction, Squarespace, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook (preferred)
- Commitment to Mass NOW Foundation’s mission and social justice
- Passionate about the work of the organization and excited to help Mass NOW secure new and sustainable funding streams
- Strong interest in menstrual equity, intersectional feminism and public health
Time Commitment
- This is a remote position. Reliable wifi and personal computer required.
- 20 hours a week, flexible schedule Monday through Friday
- Some evening meetings and events and a few weekends a year are required. Most are in the Boston, Fall River area with availability to attend events all over the Commonwealth.
Salary and Benefits
Starting Salary: $25/hour, $26,000 annually
15 days of paid flex sick or vacation days, and 24 holiday days off
