This position is available in either of the following regions: Northern California, Southern California, or Texas.
Purpose of Job
This is a developmental role intended to build a pool of individuals qualified to serve as General Managers within the organization. Under the supervision of a Regional Manager, the Manager Trainee will travel to Corporate-owned facilities to be trained by leaders in different business units. The Manager Trainee will learn, among other things, Interstate Batteries’ inventory management, budgeting, payroll, staffing and scheduling systems and practices.
Upon successful completion of this program, the Manager Trainee will be required to relocate (at Company expense) for assignment to any General Manager position available at that time.
Job Components:
- Successfully participate in a developmental program of 6 to 18 months’ duration, with responsibility for learning all aspects of managing a company-owned distributorship including:
- Staffing and operations
- P&L management
- Leadership and supervision of all warehouses, delivery, and office personnel in a manner consistent with Interstate Batteries’ policies, procedures, and applicable laws
- Development and maintenance of all warehouse procedures consistent with Interstate Batteries’ policies, procedures, and applicable laws
- Effective management of customer relations with the goal of growing and expanding a profitable business
- Identify, meet with, and secure new profitable customers for the operation with a focus on independent local dealers in your territory
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- 3 to 5 years’ experience in a supervisory or management capacity
- Available to travel up to 50% of the time, sometimes on short notice.
- Demonstrated understanding of financial statements and other reports
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team.
- Proven ability to clearly define goals and instill accountability in direct reports.
- Strong business and customer relations skills
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills
- Possess the ability to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience in a Warehouse or Distribution environment is a plus.
- Computer skills including MS product knowledge preferred.
- Knowledge of battery or automotive systems a plus
- Valid CDL is a plus.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test.
Scope Data:
- Interaction with IOT management team and supervisors
- Work independently and collaboratively with broad general direction
- Interaction with both company and franchise locations, suppliers and other stakeholders
Work Environment:
- Heavy computer use
- Interaction with regional and senior management, warehouse personnel and drivers, sales and administrative personnel, vendors and clients
- Work mostly in office environment, however, will be exposed to warehouse environment, temperature extremes and battery acid
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a repetitive basis
- Position requires sitting, standing, bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, climbing, kneeling and lifting/carrying on a frequent basis.
