Job description
We are looking for highly qualified, compassionate, and skilled registered nurses to join our network of independent contractors and provide personalized care for a spinal cord injured client in her home. As a registered nurse (RN) for our spinal cord injured client, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and overall health of our patient.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor for and prevent autonomic dysreflexia, intervening quickly when AD presents as directed by the care plan and physician orders.
- Manage and monitor the ventilator as prescribed by the physician to optimize patient respiratory function.
- Perform routine tracheostomy care to maintain airway hygiene and prevent complications.
- Assess pulmonary status and administer nebulizer treatments as ordered and PRN, perform CPT, repositioning, and postural drainage as indicated.
- Provide meticulous care for the suprapubic catheter, ensuring proper hygiene and preventing infections while maintaining patency and changing on schedule.
- Implement and assist with the bowel training program as prescribed by the healthcare team, ensuring patient comfort and dignity.
- Safely transfer the client from the bed to the wheelchair and vice versa using proper lifting and transfer techniques to prevent injury to the client and yourself.
- Conduct meticulous skin care and pressure injury prevention, with rapid reporting of skin injuries to the client and provider.
- Drive the client to medical appointments, work, events, and other outings as needed, ensuring their safety and comfort during transit.
Qualifications:
- Valid nursing license in California as a registered nurse (RN).
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a registered nurse (RN), preferably in critical care, progressive care, or rehabilitation settings.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Experience with the spinal cord injury population at home is highly desired.
- Must provide proof of flu and COVID vaccination or wear a mask.
- Ability to critically think, assess, and intervene to maintain patient safety.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Proficient in managing airway and ventilator.
- Experience with cuffless tracheostomy and suprapubic catheter care.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with other professionals in the care team.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to travel out of state with the patient alongside other nursing staff is preferred.
