Position
Leads and directs day to day accounting management function; oversees coordination of equity partner and banking draws, and outside accounting relationships; coordinating all audit initiatives; overseeing A/P and related functions; establishing proper internal financial and management controls; interfacing with investor base on financial issues, and other functions as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Manages accounts payable, staff accountants, accounting managers and assistant controllers.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Reviews/analyzes monthly delivery results through review of financial statements for all divisions and each Joint Venture company.
- Maintains monthly reconciliation of all units; held in land, started/under construction, completed vacant, completed leased, etc.
- Attend management and project coordination meetings.
- Reviews the effect on project margins (job cost rollups compared to Plan).
- Coordinate land purchases; review loan packages, joint venture documents and purchase
- agreements.
- Creates, approves, inputs and reviews budgets.
- Must be familiar with property management practices and procedures, to create effective hand-off of completed units to third-party PM with effective roll-up of information for property reporting.
- Reviews/monitors monthly Trial Balances for the company.
- Maintains short-term cash flow forecasting (2-week period) and coordinates all cash disbursements.
- Reviews all company bank reconciliations and corporate loan reconciliation monthly.
- Reviews all monthly journal entries.
- Consolidates company financial statements and coordinates completion with assistant controller and project accountants.
- Maintains integrity and quality of reporting to joint venture partners and lenders for timely and accurate information.
- Actively participates and involved with major accounting decisions, research issues and leads implementation.
- Occasional contact with investors and vendors is important in maintaining critical relationships.
- Develops and maintains working relationships with investor partners, lenders, and vendors.
- This position is expected to exercise initiative in organizing and completing assigned tasks according to established GAAP (General Accepted Accounting Principals) guidelines.
- Applicant screening, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
- Requires Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college/university; or one to two years of public accounting experience and/or three to four years industry experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of real estate accounting experience.
- Certified Public Accountant – CPA preferred, intermediate to advanced skills with job costing and budgeting.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, investors, lenders.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requires the ability to plan and utilize resources to accomplish workload.
