Senior Trial Attorney - Criminal Defense (Felony Cases)

Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Trial Attorney specializing in criminal defense with a focus on felony cases. The ideal candidate is a seasoned legal professional who can independently manage a caseload, prepare and execute defense strategies, and advocate for clients in and out of the courtroom. This position offers a hybrid remote work schedule, but regular travel is required for court appearances, client meetings, and case-related tasks within the San Antonio, Texas area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Representation: Defend clients in felony criminal cases, from pre-trial proceedings through to trial and appeal, ensuring the best possible outcome.
- Case Management: Manage a high-volume caseload of complex felony cases, working independently to develop defense strategies, conduct legal research, and handle all aspects of trial preparation.
- Trial Advocacy: Lead and participate in criminal trials, utilizing advanced trial skills such as opening statements, cross-examinations, and closing arguments.
- Client Communication: Maintain consistent and clear communication with clients, providing regular updates on case progress and advising on potential outcomes and strategies.
- Negotiations: Negotiate with prosecutors for favorable plea bargains when in the best interest of the client.
- Legal Writing: Draft and file motions, briefs, and other legal documents necessary to advance and defend clients’ rights.
- Collaboration: Work closely with paralegals, investigators, and other legal professionals to ensure the highest standard of defense.
- Court Appearances: Appear in court for arraignments, motions, hearings, and trials in the San Antonio area.
- Travel: Attend client meetings, court appearances, and other case-related functions within the San Antonio area and beyond, as required.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active member in good standing of the State Bar of Texas.
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience as a criminal defense attorney, with a strong background in felony cases.
- Proven trial experience, including conducting felony jury trials.
- Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to seek favorable outcomes in plea deals.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness and ability to travel for client meetings, court appearances, and trials within the San Antonio area.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Work Schedule:
- Hybrid Remote: You will have the flexibility to work remotely but will be expected to attend court appearances, trials, and client meetings as required.
- Travel is required based on the needs of the case and client locations.
Compensation and Benefits:
- $150k - $170k+ DOE
