Position Expectations:
We are seeking an experienced candidate to lead our Asset Operations department. The Vice President, Asset Operations will be responsible for managing operations and maintenance processes for commercial and industrial distributed energy resources, as well as small to medium utility-scale solar and energy storage systems. This role will oversee the Operations team and the maintenance of our solar and energy storage assets.
Location: Jersey City, NJ (Hybrid)
Compensation: $200,000 - $210,000 + 25% Bonus + LTIP
Job Functions:
- Monitor and manage operational performance and maintenance of a portfolio of over 100 solar projects across 15+ states, including stand-alone energy storage and solar + storage projects.
- Supervise Asset Operations personnel, providing leadership, training, and coaching to a diverse team with varying skill sets.
- Oversee and manage the Network Operations Center (NOC).
- Supervise the preparation of periodic asset operations management performance reports.
- Ensure the safe execution of all work performed on solar and storage assets.
- Identify, justify, and implement approved solar fleet optimization projects to maximize long-term project value.
- Manage the development of annual operating plans and prepare monthly and quarterly reports, including detailed variance explanations and corrective action plans.
- Oversee the day-to-day management of outsourced O&M providers to optimize asset performance, both short- and long-term, while providing guidance to staff and stakeholders.
- Focus on NOC operational metrics and optimization tools necessary to evaluate the real-time performance of operating assets.
- Monitor and manage asset generation data quality, taking responsibility for correcting any anomalies.
- Establish and manage preventative and corrective maintenance programs in coordination with Engineering and Asset Management teams, ensuring compliance with NERC, ISO, and IA standards.
- Manage commercial relationships with key vendors and lead contract negotiations as needed.
- Monitor, manage, and maximize production for each asset through system efficiency analysis and the identification of opportunities for improved performance.
- Create detailed and comprehensive reports on all projects and resources.
- Review performance reports and project-specific data, investigate issues, and initiate actions to improve performance, focusing on asset uptime and O&M strategies.
- Facilitate the onboarding of additional project portfolios and manage O&M RFP processes, negotiating O&M agreements with potential vendors.
- Collaborate closely with various departments, including Portfolio Management, Asset Management, Finance, Business Development, Engineering, Project Management, outside service providers, off-takers, and partners.
- Manage SCADA and DAS software platforms.
- Travel as required.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Management, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in asset operations management for photovoltaic and energy storage systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface at all levels of the organization.
- Creative problem-solving skills and self-motivation, with the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Exemplary organizational skills, able to prioritize tasks and address potential issues in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven leadership skills and the ability to manage teams with changing priorities.
- Strong understanding of renewable technologies, data analysis, and energy management principles.
- Familiarity with electrical systems and SCADA systems, with the ability to read design and construction drawings.
- Experience writing proposals and reports, and comfortable interacting with regulatory agencies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook).
