Summary Description
The Product Manager is responsible for developing Genera’s product marketing efforts including defining product lines (molded-fiber packaging), defining product offering, managing new product introductions, setting new product base pricing, support product marketing programs, organizing effective go to market strategies, benchmarking competitive offering and positioning, and organizing internal functions to ensure timely capacity and fulfillment via product management. The Product Manager leads Genera’s efforts to create Genera’s industry leading product portfolio.
The role requires a curiosity toward identifying and delivering on customer needs while helping steward the business toward desirable outcomes for growth and profitability.
Key tasks include:
Owning the product portfolio including development, prioritization, target setting and product performance metrics
Setting finished product specifications in collaboration with customers and internal stakeholders
Setting initial base pricing for new products
Creating go to market plans to ensure successful market entry and market capture
Developing capacity allocation plans to ensure timely support of customer needs
Lead team to establish consistent competitive bench marking for performance and pricing to ensure Genera stays ahead of competitive pressures
Set priorities for the new product development efforts collaborating with R&D, sales, supply chain and operations
Success in the role will require a passion for sustainability, decarbonization and the role of packaging in helping customers to reduce their carbon footprint while delighting consumers.
Responsibilities and Duties
Product Management Activities:
Manages Genera’s product roadmap including new product targets, introductions, and key metrics
Setting base pricing for new products
Managing workflow for new product development design, prototyping and commercialization
Setting and managing finished good specifications in close collaboration with customers and internal stakeholders
Assess market demand to identify product opportunities to pursue
Understand customer requirements and how to translate that to deliverable product attributes with engineering/operations
Represent the voice of the customer to internal stakeholders
Be the recognized expert in the business on the product, market, relevant technology and the competition
Deliver regular volume, revenue, profit forecasts and product level P&Ls
Promote the product to the sales teams through sales training sessions and materials
Monitor current products, report and improve product performance as new information and technologies are discovered
Develop product positioning and messaging in respect to company’s core mission statement
Keep ahead of industry’s developments and apply best practices to areas of improvement

Strong technical skills and knowledge of molded fiber product technologies and key price and cost drivers

Strong presentation skills in-person and virtually
Strong written communication skills including MS office products with ability to create and adapt spreadsheets, word documents, PowerPoint presentations
Familiarity with using ERP’s, CRM and various business tools
Qualifications
The minimum requirements for education and experience are listed below. Consideration will be given to individuals with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
College degree: Engineering, Business, Marketing, other science-based or business-based degree
Strong track record creating and delivering value for customers
Product management experience in a B2B environment
Experience managing complex & technical customer challenges
Formal training in product management and related systems and metrics
Ideally experience in packaging industry from a manufacturing company
Location
Eastern Tennessee, Hybrid office (Vonore, TN) and home office option
Travel Requirements
Travel 20% mostly within North America
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Must be able to access all areas of the facility and customer locations with or without reasonable accommodation.
Travel is required.
